I’m going to use the Iranian hit on the F-35 to explain something important. Iran does not have medium- or long-range radars. That’s why American and Israeli aircraft can carry out strikes without being detected. This does not mean Iran has completely lost control of its airspace, but it is unable to monitor it effectively enough to stop incoming strikes in real time. That’s exactly why the US and Israel currently enjoy air superiority over Iran. This is very different from air dominance (or air supremacy), where you completely rule the skies and can fly anywhere you want, even helicopters, with virtually no risk.
