@patmccarry @RugbyPass Think Sheehan has to start. Too risky to have him on the bench and potentially be asked to play 70 plus minutes.

@higginsdavidw By 'soar', you presumably mean the way Aontú went from one to two seats in GE24?

Big moment for the incoming FF/FG/Ind (presumed) government. Ditch the "woke" stuff or watch parties like Aontú soar. We're not the only country facing this.
Aontú@AontuIE

Peadar Tóibín stated yesterday that he was proud of the role Aontú has played in helping to reverse the tide on woke politics. It was in response to the article below. He was asked by some to define woke politics. So here is his definition: Woke politics is an intellectual fashion. It sees itself as modern, but it is anti-science and anti-evidence. Its about what’s in vogue, not what’s coherent. It sees itself as the cutting edge of equal rights. But it’s the opposite. It swings the pendulum of rights of one group so far that it damages the rights of another group. It dresses up in the colours of diversity. Yet it attacks diversity of thought. It sees itself as inclusive, but it fractures society into a myriad of opposing identities and sets these identities against other. It sees itself as liberal. But its illiberal in the way that it strips liberal democratic rights such as the right to free speech from people. It sees itself as tolerant. But it is sometimes violently intolerant of those it disagrees with. It sees itself as enlightened, but it is as puritanical as any medieval religious sect. It sees itself as anti-nationalist but is full to the brim of the flag waving instincts. Woke politics is the mirror image of many of the extremes it claims to hate. There are people who are suffering in society: people who are homeless, children who are in poverty, families who are hammered with the cost-of-living crisis and the squeezed middle. Woke politics distracts people from the real economic bread and butter inequalities that damage so many families. Woke politics and common-sense are oil and water. Woke politics elevates evidence free fads and trends over basic cop on which does serious damage to the people it pretends to help. We live in an Irish republic. It is imperfect. I would like to see many changes to fix the political system and improve the lives of citizens. I would like to see a prosperous, fairer, more united Ireland. I believe the Irish flag represents all Irish people equally. It unites us all together, something that woke politics could never do.

@LeinsterRoyalty Basics collapse under outstanding defence and superior coaching on top of the quality gap. Was barely mentioned but Osbourne was superb. 2nd playmaker & kicking option. Several line breaks & always wins the gain line after contact.

Easy to focus on teamsheets but if you are not doing the basics properly like plugging or pillar in defence and rucks , basic workrate stuff , too many passes going to deck .... #MUNvLEI

@paddymacc1 Trump is so much of a gowl that he has to ignore that every functional adult knows Trump is a gowl. Vance thinks Trump is a gowl and he’s Trumps VP.

Not the brightest idea for Ireland's Taoiseach (PM) to call the President of the US a gowl. Gowl is Irish slang for  "An annoying fool; an idiot; a dishonest person"
Irish Jewish Voice@Irishchutzpah

Our not very bright @SimonHarrisTD thinks that by beefing up the embassies in Washington he will stave off the incoming Trump administrations impact on Ireland. This after slandering and maligning Trump right through the election process and maligning and slandering the USA’s most formidable ally Israel during a war in which it faces 7 enemies. @howardlutnick

An Australian relative’s visiting New York City this week, and had a nasty fall. She was transported to the emergency room. “Service was amazing! They’re so nice! My stitches were done in 2 hours, and I even got an after-visit summary. It would’ve taken 6 hours in Australia”

Watters: The President-Elect has invited XI jinping to witness his inauguration. A power move to intimidate the Chinese leader. If he declines, it's disrespectful and Trump will take it personally and if he accepts, he will be forced to observe President Trump at his most powerful moment.. You put him in a subservient position plus you can spy on him the whole time he's in D.C.

@Ltm67 @JoeNaConnacht There was indeed a 3rd option back in the day - Jeremy Staunton. Had an outstanding career in England and was a loss to the Ireland setup

@JoeNaConnacht Jack Crowley is in pole position Prendergast fast approaching (but not quite there yet) breathing down his neck However - where you are wrong (I hope) is that Ciara’s Frawley is 3rd place but by no means completely out of the picture. Was there a 3rd option for ROGvSexton?

Leinster fans are anointing Sam Prendergast as Ireland’s next long-term ten ✨, while Munster fans nitpick his every mistake 🔍 and insist Jack Crowley is the only choice for the role. It’s shaping up to be another Sexton vs O’Gara debate 🔴🔵. Such fun for the next five years.

@rayzorboy Yeah, but it's an exceptional constituency with a party leader and potential Taoiseach in it. And first election without a Coveney in a long time. Wicklow is similarly skewed for same reason. FF on just 6.5% there.

One of the bizarre statistical quirks of the election is that Fine Gael is the only one of the three larger parties that received more votes (absolute not %) in the election. FF and SF both behind 2020. But those FG votes ended up electing a lot of FFers #GE2024 #GE24

@KarlBrophy Cork SC. FG lost 2k first preferences over 2020 - with a high performing minister. In 2011 FG had 22k and still one seat. Now at 10k.

@rayzorboy At least they took a seat in Cork SC, which is all they could have hoped for. They are the biggest party by share in Cork SW but have no seat. That's silly. In other places it is hard to manage votes when you have so many first-time and unknown candidates. SF did okay.
