Iron Beam (Hebrew: Or Eitan) is a 100kW-class high-energy laser air defense system developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Elbit Systems in Israel to destroy short-range rockets, mortars, and UAVs with a laser at the speed of light. Officially deployed in December 2025, it costs roughly $3–$4 per interception, providing a cost-effective, "unlimited magazine" complement to the Iron Dome.
Key details about the Iron Beam:
Purpose: It acts as the fifth layer of Israel's air defense system, designed for close-range interception (up to 10 km).
Technology: Uses a solid-state fiber laser to burn through aerial threats within 4 to 5 seconds of firing.
Cost & Efficiency: Offers a near-zero cost per interception, unlike expensive interceptor missiles, and can operate continuously without needing to reload.

BREAKING: Two Iranian jets flew just 80 feet above the Persian Gulf in an attempt to evade radar detection. They were reportedly only minutes away from reaching Al-Udeid Air Base when Qatari forces shot them down. Al-Udeid is the largest U.S. air base in the Middle East, hosting around 10,000 American personnel and serving as the central command hub for Operation Epic Fury. Iran had dispatched two Soviet-era Su-24 bombers, flying extremely low over the water as they headed directly toward the base. A Qatari F-15 intercepted the aircraft and destroyed both marking Qatar’s first aerial combat engagement in its history. ✈️
