Inclusion BC is disturbed by the @Conservative_BC platform on education. Research in Canada and around the world shows us that all students learn better in inclusive classrooms. (A thread🧵) #BCElxn2024 #InclusiveEducation

“Education is not about politics,” John Rustad said in 2002. Now, if elected, he’s proposing to review B.C. school books to ensure they’re “neutral.” By whose standards? @HarrisonMooney writes. #BCElxn2024 thetyee.ca/Analysis/2024/…

Let me be clear, the Quebec Mosque Shooting, Aurora, Orlando, and Sandy Hook were all very real mass shootings — innocent people lost their lives, and we should all mourn these tragedies. What I was trying to say is the whirlwind of US media and commentary makes everything chaotic and confusing to people watching the TV. People’s understanding of what’s going on changes from moment to moment and it’s all just so difficult to understand. News commentators and all of their political angles, particularly when it comes to US media, don’t make things any easier. Sadly, these mass shooting incidents and the deaths they have caused are all very real. I sincerely wish they weren’t, because they’re horrific and needless tragedies. Following advice from legal counsel, I will no longer be commenting on this matter or any other matter related to social media posts from years ago. I absolutely remain committed to standing up for everyone in Surrey South.

Some significant changes to the @Conservative_BC education platform yesterday from its first emailed release (left) to a rewritten version on its website (right). - Deleted "remove classroom material that instills guilt based on ethnicity, nationality or religion" to "ideological neutrality of classroom materials" - And deleted "empower teachers and school administrators to main discipline" to "support teachers and administrators" - And changed ensuring parents informed of "any significant ideations" to "suicidal ideations" expressed by their child.

Each promise represents a leap backward for BC families at a time when we need smart and strategic investment in students and schools — not cuts, privatization, and partisan political interference. 2/9

The BC Conservative Party has released an education platform that shows a deep misunderstanding of public schools and what students in them need. #BCElection2024 #ITeachIVote #bcpoli #bced 1/9
