An introduction to Proposition 13, and why it remains so popular When people buy a home, they usually buy as much as they can afford. Balancing everything on the wish list is always difficult. Mortgage payments, insurance and taxes are part of the calculation along with location and square footage. Once they buy a home, they shouldn't face skyrocketing property tax bills based on rising real estate market values, something no one can control or even predict. Here's how Prop. 13 helps Californians keep the home they buy, without getting taxed out of it by inflation. The median price home in California cost approximately... 1978: $70,890 1998: $200,000 2018: $571,058 2025: $880,000 Prop. 13 caps the annual increase in taxable (assessed) value at 2% per year. With a 2% annual increase in assessed value, in 2025... The homeowner who purchased a home for $70,890 in 1978 has a taxable value of $179,801. The homeowner who purchased a home for $200,000 in 1998 has a taxable value of $343,784. The homeowner who purchased a home for $571,058 in 2018 has a taxable value of $655,966. The homeowner who purchased a home for $880,000 in 2025 has a taxable value of $880,000 but is paying far less in property taxes than would have been owed before Prop. 13, when the statewide average tax rate was 2.67%. (Prop. 13 cut the rate to 1%.) Because of Prop. 13, these four homeowners have an "ability to pay" factor built into their tax obligation. They have annual property tax bills of (not counting bonds, etc.)... 1978 purchaser: $1,798 1998 purchaser: $3,438 2018 purchaser: $5,710 2025 purchaser: $8,800 If Proposition 13 didn't exist, ALL these homeowners would owe property taxes on an assessed value of $880,000, with a tax rate that had no cap. If the rate was 2.67%, they'd each be facing a current year property tax bill of $23,500, not counting school bonds and other extra charges. And that's why Proposition 13 is the third rail of California politics. Calculations and median price estimates by Grok. Savings by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. How high would your property taxes be if Prop. 13 had never passed? Try HJTA's GuessingGame.org calculator and find out.

No, under Proposition 13 (1978) the assessed value of that $80K home went up 2% per year while under the same ownership. Under Prop. 58 (1986) a principal residence passed from parent to child was excluded from reassessment. (Prop. 19 limited and capped that exclusion in 2020.)

Prop 13 is the California family trust fund of state policy. Granny buys a LA beach shack in 1980 for $80k, it’s now worth $4M. She passes it to her grandkid, who pays taxes on $80k. Meanwhile the transplant renting the converted garage pays $50k/year in rent

American democracy is the kind of system where you can vote and vote and vote, but no matter how many times you vote for less war and less immigration, the government is going to give you more war and more immigration. It’s always World War II, we’re always fighting Hitler, and we always have no choice because we’ve got to stop [Fill In Targeted Country Here] from acquiring nuclear weapons. Even if we’ve just totally obliterated their nuclear program. Also, we’re never getting a wall. Coincidentally, the price tag for a mere two weeks of the Iran war is about what it would cost to build an impermeable, 2,000-mile wall across our entire southern border. I give up. I’m out of options, but the least I can do is help Trump during his last few years in office. (His last year in office, if the midterms turn out the way they’re looking right now.)

America’s infrastructure is falling apart, and you cannot afford to buy home But we’re going to spend another $200 billion in the Middle East Absolutely insane

Iran — imminent threat! We governed ourselves accordingly!
Karoline Leavitt@PressSec

There are many false claims in this letter but let me address one specifically: that "Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation."   This is the same false claim that Democrats and some in the liberal media have been repeating over and over.   As President Trump has clearly and explicitly stated, he had strong and compelling evidence that Iran was going to attack the United States first.   This evidence was compiled from many sources and factors. President Trump would never make the decision to deploy military assets against a foreign adversary in a vacuum.   Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. The Iranian regime is evil. It proudly killed Americans, waged war against our country, and openly threatened us all the way up to the launch of Operation Epic Fury.   Iran was aggressively expanding their short-range ballistic missiles to combine with their naval assets to give themselves immunity – meaning they would have a degree of a capabilities that would give them immunity to hold us and the rest of the world hostage.   The regime aimed to use those ballistic missiles as a shield to continue achieving their ultimate goal – nuclear weapons.   The President, through his top negotiators, gave the regime every single possible opportunity to abandon this unacceptable course by permanently giving up their nuclear ambitions in exchange for sanctions relief, free nuclear fuel, and potential economic partnerships with our country.   But they would not say yes to peace because obtaining nuclear weapons was their fundamental goal.   President Trump ultimately made the determination that a joint attack with Israel would greatly reduce the risk to American lives that would come from a first strike by the terrorist Iranian regime and address this imminent threat to America’s national security interests.   All of this led to President Trump arriving at the determination that this military operation was necessary for U.S. national security, which is why he launched the massively successful Operation Epic Fury. The Commander-in-Chief determines what does and does not constitute a threat, because he is the one constitutionally empowered to do so - and because the American people went to the ballot box and entrusted him and him alone to make such final judgments. And finally, the absurd allegation that President Trump made this decision based on the influence of others, even foreign countries, is both insulting and laughable. President Trump has been remarkably consistent and has said for DECADES that Iran can NEVER possess a nuclear weapon. As someone who actually witnesses President Trump’s decision-making process on a daily basis, I can attest to the fact that he is always looking to do what’s in the best interest of the United States of America — period. America First.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

A senior couple has lived in their 4-bedroom home for 30 years. The kids are grown. They'd love to downsize. But capital gains taxes make it nearly impossible to sell. So they stay. And that family home never opens up for a young family that needs it. I've already put forward county support for federal efforts to reduce capital gains taxes on seniors selling their homes and to let them transfer their interest rates to a new place. We free up housing without building a single new unit. We help seniors move on their terms. And we get young families into homes.

According to my standards, I can do 43. -chest to ground -full lockout with clear pause at top -no “resting” at the top -body in good plank the whole time Start “resting” at top for >.25 sec? Set’s over. Start worming up? Set’s over. Why such strict standards? Because without them, it’s impossible to gauge progress. And this applies to most things. If I do this standard this time and then next time I let myself rest at the top as long as I want, or not touch the ground, or not fully lockout, and I get 62, did I improve? I have no idea. And does that mean you shouldn’t ever do sets where you rest at the top, or where you don’t do full chest to ground. No! But for testing/comparison purposes, it’s important to have clear standards. And I think these are the easiest to implement to a wide audience. No additional equipment needed, just touch your chest to the ground and fully lockout. Very clear bottom and top of the movement, no ambiguous “arms at parallel” or “4 inches off the ground.” Simple and repeatable. Repost or comment with a video (side view) of your results. I don’t care how many you do, I just wanna see great reps!
Hybrid Athlete Guy@Hybridathlete

50 pushups in a row is extermely hard to do. If you disagree, I guarantee your form and range of motion is dogshit. Chest to ground, body in a straight line, full lockout between reps. Still insist it's easy? Post a video.
