@notcomplex_ These are just shotgun blasts. R*2 would be extremely low, i.e. no correlation! If introductory stats is too much, just read Excel notes.

A study found a negative relationship between belief in a growth mindset and cognitive training gains. Ironically, people who believed intelligence is more fixed grew the fastest.

Hi there, Jay. Water is in fact a chemical. A single water molecule consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. H₂O. Anything made up of atoms is a chemical. If you passed second grade, you would know this.

@ChrisMartzWX Water is not a chemical. Do better.

@davepl1968 Spot on Dave. In flight departures the pilots are working the options at superhuman speeds to try & get the aircraft under control. In this instance it was all over in seconds. (not looking good for the fire truck if it drove through the red Runway Entrance Lights)

Unmitigated bullshit that emerges every time a plane crashes. I'm not a pilot, but Chuck Yeager told me once that every time a pilot dies, someone has to make up a story about them trying to miss the houses and hit the field. He called BS on that specifically: In his opinion, every millisecond before hitting the ground is spent trying to recover the aircraft. There's no time for the sentimental. The stories come later.

"The pilots sacrificed themselves to save everybody." Captain Steeeve says the "heroic" Air Canada pilots involved in the LaGuardia plane crash "could have veered left or right to avoid harm for them in the cockpit.” 📺youtu.be/F82jBioz6GA @piersmorgan

@PronouncedHare Very important to discuss the exact anesthetic that is proposed to be used. There are very safe anesthetics in use that unfortunately can result in severe memory loss in elderly patients. This is when a health advocate can be benefitial (e.g. a serious younger family member)

When my grandmother was 99 she had a pacemaker fitted. They flew her to Wellington for the operation. Before they went the guy asked her if she wanted to be resuscitated. She said yes. The guy then asked her again, explaining that it can cause quite painful injuries. She was a completely capable woman of full mental capacity and said yes she understood and please resuscitate her if she needed it. He then asked her a third time, telling her that her quality of life might be different. At that point, my grandmother turned to my father and asked “What does he want me to say?” and Dad then intervened telling the now very defensive guy to knock it off. That kind of low level pressure happens in the health system every day.

Why the Boeing 787 Dreamliner Keeps Peeling Paint — Despite Being a Favorite for Airlines. The 787’s paint issue isn’t cosmetic—it’s structural. Its wings are built in layers: carbon fiber (structure), copper mesh (lightning protection), and a thin fiberglass layer on top. The paint sits on that outer layer. Over time, UV exposure degrades the fiberglass into powder. That powder lifts off with the ultra-thin paint, exposing the underlying layers. Unlike older jets, the 787’s paint system is part of its lightning protection design—so airlines can’t just apply thicker paint or use different primers without certification changes. Airlines still love the 787 for its efficiency—but this has quietly become one of its most persistent technical headaches. Video from LATAM Dreamliner 2024. 📸: u/eem29

@wildbluejester @Turbinetraveler That is an excellent observation. Applying a vacuum cup to a painted composite surface where the paint scheme has degraded adhesion is a serious safety risk !! Boeing and Airbus will have guidance in place in the AMM and SRM for sure.

@4n6expert @PhillipODell8 @MCCCANM All true ! The challenge for the future is that all of the 'gates' in this situation are ultimately human centric. Even the automated lights are dependent on a human responding correctly. NTSB recommendations will probably address this.

Probably no reason to do this type of exam. Doubtful it’s malfunctioning & even if it was, the chance it’s related to the accident is extremely small. But that’s the point. They’ll rule everything else out, no matter how small. The NTSB is an agency I still admire.

@PhillipODell8 @MCCCANM But correct me if I am wrong, they are not the REL's facing the truck. Its a fair assumption that the REL's facing the camera being ON means the RELs facing the truck are ON, but it would be absolutely definitive to have a video from the trucks side.

@PhillipODell8 @MCCCANM From the videos I have seen it is hard to tell if the Runway Entrance Lights facing the fire truck were on. The videos are looking in the opposite direction and RELs are very directional for obvious reasons. If they were ON, its not looking good for the fire truck.

I’ll tell you what would be great: Just one Labor politician with the intestinal fortitude to tell Trump and Netanyahu to get nicked! Just one who calls for Labor to abandon the madness of AUKUS. Just one who stands against appeasement of US and Israeli warmongering. Just one!

@khoomeik Looks a lot like dislocations piling up at grain boundaries in a metal being cyclically strained. Will have to ask AI if I can use the maths of the former to model the later and massively improve fatigue life prediction. I feel an AI discovery is imminent !!

@OnDisasters Runway Status Lights have to be considered as well so there are both human factors and equipment factors to be considered. Ordinarily the red status lights on and ATC approval to cross still equals Do Not proceed. So there is a lot to be investigated.

Air Safety #OTD by Francisco Cunha
Blancolirio comment on the La Guardia crash from last sunday. I also highlight this comment on his channel: I´ve seen many similar takes on the current situation with ATC on the US "Former ATC here. We combined positions all the time. This type of event was always in the back of my head. Since United was a declared emergency, the canadian CRJ should have been waved off for another lap with approach. I no longer am an air traffic controller precisely because shit like this is all but inevitable. Thoughts and prayers and all that, but the federal government needs to properly staff facilities." @cancel_commies @TheNameofWar Obviously, but the frag density is quite uniform in the field of view suggesting similar results outside of frame. And the wing root and inboard tanks would seem to have been similarly affected. The best self sealing tanks are going to still leak like crazy under that punishment

@cancel_commies @TheNameofWar If it is real its a test article for munitions evaluation. Its just not a returned aircraft from a mission. There would be bodies or shredded bodies more accurately, and even if removed, there would still be blood everywhere. And the fuselage seems empty, systems seem light on.

@Turbinetraveler AI slop. No possibility whatsoever of being certified. Laughable actually. The g loads about all 3 axis that are required to be dealt with are very high. In particular the crash loads. Current seats with all their structure just make it.

@scottiebateman Actually the alarming bit is the buffet on the inboard aft flaps. The flaps move around so much you would swear they are about to come off !!! But shots from the rear are hard to get so the flying public presses on oblivious (best way to be!!)

Yet another video appearing today, that gets recycled again, and again. Lots of comments about a “cool landing”… but is it ? Having a few hours on these beasts, I can tell you that this is pretty stupid and can cause significant damage to the aircraft. Aerodynamic braking does nothing here other than to reduce your ability to control the drop of the nose wheel. Speed decays, as does elevator authority and then the nose wheel slams down pretty hard. Possibly causing damage. Totally avoidable if the correct technique is used. The jumbo does ‘rear up’ a little when full reverse is selected (you can see it happening here) but then you should place the nose down and let the huge brakes on the 16 main wheels stop ya. It stops pretty short without any of these theatrics. Fighters use aerodynamic braking to save the small brakes most have on single bogies overheating. Taking the energy out of the high speed landing. The 747 doesn’t need any of that. #avgeek #aviation #boeing747
