@realAlexbosco @AMAZlNGNATURE He hunted and killed elephant before so, Karma is a bitch. It's good to see people like this killed by wildlife. "Some of the animal heads reportedly lining the walls of his Lodi, Calif., home include a rhino, bear, buffalo, crocodile, lion, zebra, leopard and, yes, an elephant,"

@talledcombs They never got that high polish finish. I bought that gun for 200 bucks at a gun show because it had the air force eagle on it and had it redone. These photos are of my grandads gun in the original 7.65 (32acp).

@wendyp4545 That would be a good start and requires quite a bit of participation. I’m doing my part having personally met Donalds on several occasions and Desantis as well. I guess what I’m trying to understand is, who is the option? No disrespect, just genuine interest.

@joeroganhq Certain behavior transcends legal definitions of age. There was a time that Americans reacted to these obscene behaviors…regardless of race or creed.

BREAKING: @GovernorVA has signed two unconstitutional gun bills into law: HB1525 immediately bans purchase AND possession of certain firearms for adults under 21 — turning existing lawful owners into criminals overnight. SB727/HB1524 bans carrying and transporting many common firearms on public property, including semiautomatic centerfire rifles or pistols over 15 rounds, effective July 1, 2026.

@BlokeOnTheRange @MAC_Arms Classic marking of the lend lease guns. The cool thing is that apparently, when they were decommissioned they’d proof the barrels with markings. This one is missing that, following the family’s story about its entry into the US. If they could only speak…

This 1911 was sent to England as part of the lend-lease program. You can see the English acceptance marks on the gun. It's in remarkably good shape. Chances are it sat out the war in a warehouse. No import marks, so it was likely repatriated by an American Soldier.

Gun stuff 6, of a series. Turning to shotguns. Note: the last post sparked a lot (for me) of response. I am humbled. The purpose of these has always been to spark thought, and discussion, not for me to be all knowing and always top dog. I like it. Shotguns are a mixed bag for me. I recognize their usefulness, their utility, but for the most part, I don't love them. I have several, they mostly sleep in my safe. For the purposes of this discussion, I am going to stick to traditional, pump action style shotguns. Yes, I am aware there are evermore exotic, interesting and new age stuff out there. Not my bag, baby. The following sentence is heritical: for 90% of shotgun related uses, I believe a 20 gauge to be functionally superior to the ubiquitous 12 gauge. Oh, he is going to do the "decline with age" thing again... No, as it happens, I'm not. For hunting, the 20 gauge is lighter, handier in the arc, and lighter on the shoulder, and outside of truly large animals (not super common hereabouts) will slug drop equal to the 12. In defense situations, the same holds true. I'm going to use imaginary numbers here. A one ounce slug will undo a man (subject to previously stated caveats) and so will a 3/4 ounce slug. Neutralized is neutralized, and a faster follow up shot can be had with a 20 gauge, in my experience. Now, there are always those who will argue for bigger better faster more, and I'll leave them to it. I will also note that human physiology has not evolved internal plating in my lifetime, and at the shotgun level, a hole is pretty much a hole. As an aside, there are bargains to be had, particularly in Winchester Model 1897's, in 16 gauge. Ammunition can still be had, though not in the variety of 12 gauge. 16 gauge will do the job too, just saying. Now, a story. Below is a Remington Model 870, in 20 gauge. This particular one has a story. It went into the Panhandle Florida salt water and pluff mud in 2005 (Hurricane Ivan) and was fished out in 2021. It was cleaned up, gone through, a few small parts replaced, and it runs like new. I left the "patina" as is, and tested it through 100 shells of various types on a sled before pronouncing it safe. It's ugly, worth nothing, but I like the old girl. Series note: I started this because I saw someone I like on X doing a first purchase, and looking for advice. So I started playing around with the Idea and here we are. I do not seek to set myself up as all knowing, infallible, or anything other than a guy who has done a lot of this. Your mileage may vary. More to come. Glad you are here...

Gun stuff 5, a series. Getting old. I've put this off for a few posts, but the time has come. I'm going to talk about my main EDC, and the why of it. This is in no way intended to either influence your decision or justify my own. What this is intended to do, is show you the drivers for the decision, to perhaps spark some reflection before you buy. Firearm: Colt Detective Special, .38 Special, 6 round capacity, manufactured 1969. Ammo: 158g full wadcutter. I can hear the outrage now from the tacticrap crowd. I'm a FUDD, a Boomer, what the hell do I know (I'm neither). Here is the rationale behind this choice. Manual of arms: I am a fairly experienced shooter, with a variety of pistols, both revolver and semi auto available. The DS has the simplest manual of arms possible. Why does this matter? Because I am 60, and perfectly healthy. However, time will begin to catch me one day, and on that day, I want the manual of arms that fits both my muscle memory and decline. I will decline, it comes to us all, and facing that is better than failing it. Method of carry: I pocket carry. Discrete holsters have never worked for me. They irritate and slow me down. A revolver in my pocket disappears, remains upright. And putting my hand into the top of my jeans pocket is a perfectly natural move. With my thumb across the hammer it is a snag free draw, and the colt grips index in my hand in the same way every time. Discretion: If I am forced to use my carry someday, I am acutely aware that even in this part of Florida, there are legions of lawyers awaiting the chance to avenge the killing of some future scientist and bleed my rather miniscule savings dry. A revolver does not dump brass on the ground, which potentially gives me time to leave the scene immediately,if for some reason that appears to be the preferred course of action. This may well contravene ethics, law, and your own righteousness for some of you, but I am far too old to believe in righteousness as anything other than a for hire proposition. You, on the other hand, may believe anything you like. Disengagement on my terms. Ammunition: Wadcutters smash bone, and impart energy very efficiently in doing so. Place one say, in a hip, and the problem will very likely just fold like a deck chair, and disengagement is at hand. It's an old school solution, but I am old school, and it suits my (dis)engagement model. That's enough for now. Hopefully it provoked some thought. More to follow.
