@jencloo @charliesmirkley @DanielDiMartino That is true & reinforces my point: the homeschooled sample is not representative of the population. They are wealthier, higher IQ, & have more involved parents. Reading to young kids is both a great predictor of success in school and essentially a prerequisite of homeschooling.

Only teachers are smart enough to educate children. Education majors, training to become certified teachers, score an average of 1029 on the SAT. While homeschooled students (taught by parents with no formal teaching credentials) score 1190.

@jencloo @charliesmirkley @DanielDiMartino People make the decision at different ages and for different reasons. But the key confounding variables are socioeconomic status and intelligence, which IS reliably quantifiable at 4-5. More on the $ side: I went to a wealthy public high school, our median SAT was 1370

@realDanielLucas @charliesmirkley @DanielDiMartino When parents decide to homeschool they don’t know the IQ or aptitude of their 4-5 year old. Smart kids still require to be taught what they don’t know. Many homeschool to help learning disabled kids. I’ll brag here - my homeschooled kid scored 1340 on the SAT.

@charliesmirkley @DanielDiMartino And yet your comparison had nothing to do with that as Mathematicians with high SAT scores aren’t the ones homeschooling their kids. Using this data to argue that teacher are worse equipped to teach than the average parent is a flaw necessitating your deceitful framing.

@realDanielLucas @DanielDiMartino The occupational group “teachers” will largely reflect the initial selection of relatively low SAT scorers, just as mathematicians will largely reflect the initial selection of high SAT scorers.

@charliesmirkley @DanielDiMartino The distinction IS relevant to your transparent attempt to misconstrue the data by labeling them “education majors” (18-22) & “training to be certified teachers” (22+). You’re using data about 17 year olds to make a point about “teachers”. That’s deeply flawed and disingenuous.

They’re all 17-year-old students when they take the test. The distinction that they aren’t teachers yet is a semantic waste of time because the 1280-scoring math students aren't mathematicians yet. Does something magical happen to edication majors that their SAT scores rise relative to others? No, of course not.

said this a million times but Apple are idiots for not doing a 25th anniversary iPod this year clickwheel, multiple colors, Apple Music, Bluetooth and AirPods support, a good DAC and storage up to 2 TB just to appease the audiophiles — boom, you have the product of Christmas 26

@jimgeraghty The Reagan museum also has a fighter jet, and Marine One for good measure.

It was just about inevitable that the Trump presidential library would feature a colossal gold statue of Trump (1:09 in the announcement video) that the North Korean Kims or Turkmenistan’s former dictator, Saparmurad Niyazov, would envy. (Perhaps someone will add a giant golden calf alongside the president.) Trump won’t have just an Air Force One plane in the atrium like Reagan; he’ll have fighter jets, too. Look out, Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum! The Trump library also looks largely indistinguishable from other Trump properties that bear his name in huge letters. You can’t tell me the president hasn’t thought about tossing a few luxury condos in there. Maybe a casino? A rooftop pool with a water slide? There’s time to brainstorm some additions to really give it that signature Trump touch. (I initially wrote a joke that Trump might as well throw in a hotel, but … that’s apparently under consideration!)

WSJ had a quote from Artemis II’s commander, a widower who admits to “worry about his daughters. ‘I could have a very comfortable life for them. But I’m also a human, and I see the spirit in their eyes that is burning in my soul too. And so we’ve just got to never stop going.’”

@yaelbt @NoahCRothman I don’t understand how people are so bad at spotting obvious AI. This just fundamentally doesn’t look like any video anyone has seen until 3 years ago and already people can’t differentiate it from reality. Guy runs through a fence and has a gun spawn from his head.

Hi there, Governor. Both of these photos show decommissioned projects that were completed. The photo your staffer shared on the left is the original Seven Mile Bridge connecting the Florida mainland to the Keys that was operational between 1912 and 1982 (refurbished for automobiles after the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935) until sections of it were removed for the new bridge. 🔗pigeonkey.net/a-short-histor… 🔗keysweekly.com/42/keys-histor… 🔗ci.marathon.fl.us/community/page… The photograph on the right shows the U.S. Route 96 Neches River Bridge just west of Evadale, Texas. It was decommissioned when a new one was built a half a mile or so to the northwest because the highway was rerouted. 🔗texasfreeway.com/Statewide/Jasp… 🔗@30.3509846,-94.0857434,2027m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDMxNS4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">google.com/maps/@30.35098… What a colossal failure of a dunk attempt this turned out to be.
