My kid lost his 1st tooth today & was tripping out because “First, it felt weird to have a wiggly tooth but THEN I got used to it and NOW it’s gone & THAT feels weird!” and if that’s not a metaphor for life, I don’t know what is.

@sconnie_nurse Sounds like a suckfest for all concerned. (Ha! Totally inadvertent breathing-through-a-straw reference!)

@real_danimal I would say both. It’s a long process of the patient struggling to breathe through a straw and me saying “okay! Nice, slow, deep breaths!”

Five years as an ICU nurse, and today I had my first ever self extubation!!! But honestly weaning patients is the worst, so I’m not even mad. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@sconnie_nurse Is that dependent on how long they’ve been intubated (eg days vs hours), or is it the same under pretty much any circumstances?

@theleanover did you make your Twitter disappear for a bit and then bring it back? If yes, I understand any/all motivations behind this.

Watching the part where the sloth waves somehow makes me feel like I’m on drugs (I’m not). This seems too cartoonish to be real life!

@real_danimal They woke up because they were in with an OD and the drugs they’d taken had finally worn off, so our sedation was no longer enough. If you’re restrained and can sit forward, you can reach your ETT with your restrained hands!

@sconnie_nurse Hard for me to wrap my head around their getting past restraints AND sedation. How does that even work? And how long had they been intubated for?

@real_danimal My intubated patient randomly woke up and took out their tube by themselves. Even though they were sedated and restrained.
