Every Indian keeps their home spic and span because they think, “This is my responsibility.” If we extended that same mindset to the streets outside our homes and said, “This is also my responsibility,” India’s garbage problem would largely solve itself. Cleanliness begins where our front door ends.

I spent the last few evenings watching a new show on Prime called Off Campus. Apparently the “college students” in this show are 28 year-olds who would have done well to audition for a soft porn film. I found it quite disappointing — from storyline to performances.

The Dark Future of the Gulf Economies On February 28th, when Trump and Netanyahu decided to attack the Gulf countries, they didn’t consult any leader about their actions. In every scenario of an attack on Iran, any intelligence report would be able to predict the closing of Hormuz and even an escalation scenario pointing to the closing of the Red Sea strait, the Bab-el-Mandeb. All reports and warnings were ignored, not only assuming economic damage to the Gulf countries as a consequence, but also exposing them to reprisals from Iran, which returned fire coming from the American bases. All this collaboration was soon shoved down the throats of the Arab countries under the argument that it would be a quick war. Another great stupidity. There is no quick war against a country of 100 million people and a missile power. The result of all this is an economic loss of around $200 billion in the economies of the Gulf countries. The GCC countries made a bet that didn’t pay off and are paying a high price, but I would say they didn’t, and still don’t have many options. The most frightening thing is that instead of discussing mechanisms for compensation and reconstruction of these countries, Trump even said they should pay the costs of the war. Today the strait has been practically closed for almost 3 months, with all the global economic effects we know, which will intensify. Netanyahu bets that the worse the economic situation of the GCC imposed by the war and by Iran, the more opportunities this will bring to Israel in the region. He even proposed that the solution is a pipeline that allows the GCC to export through Israel. He not only bets on more economic ties, but this situation has brought him the possibility of Israeli troops in the Emirates less than 100km from Iran. Netanyahu is a highly skilled politician who cannot be underestimated. Israel hasn’t achieved any objective in the war, but it has spent very little, and it has been serving Netanyahu to implement a nationalist platform, where he even said that Israel had become a superpower. Netanyahu exaggerates, but overall, the war helps him. Meanwhile, Trump saw his popularity melt and continues with his tail in the fire while the Democrats fan those flames. Donald Trump does not have a sense of self-preservation for himself. What would make the GCC countries think he is worried about them? He isn’t. He will put Netanyahu’s interests and his own financial interests above the GCC. The interruption of Hormuz causes great damage to the world economy, and this cost was predicted and ignored by the Pentagon and Netanyahu. This is a point that must be a premise in any analysis of future developments. In addition to oil, this closure directly affects the global flow of Liquefied Natural Gas, Fertilizers, Ammonia, Helium, Petrochemicals and Plastics, Sulfur, Refined Fuels, and even Aluminum. Not to mention the global chains dragged down by this crisis. Unlike the public sector, private company employees in the Gulf are already facing discussions about salary cuts or unpaid leave to preserve company cash. Saudi Arabia will continue to export through the Red Sea a portion of what it exported before and has shown itself to be skillful in negotiating with Iran. But the Emirates, even with a pipeline, won’t have an easy life, as Iran has presented the blockade area covering the port of Fujairah. Full article: open.substack.com/pub/global21/p…
