@Chip_Prospect @sspencer_63 The Trust model for small businesses who then split the income to their kids etc has long been used to pay less tax, even if kids aren’t working in the business. They can still do it, but it will be taxed. Or they can take it as wages, but they have to actually work in business

@Chip_Prospect @sspencer_63 If the funds are “distributed” it means they are being paid to the beneficiary. So no, they aren’t being reinvested - the funds are leaving the business Dude even says they’d have to pay this as wages instead to reduce tax under new model - but wages must be justified.

@NoelWhittaker How on earth is it “an attack on business” if they could draw it as a wage if it was one, but they can’t justify it? If they don’t work for the business run by the trust then they shouldn’t be entitled to a tax break on the proceeds of the business.

I'm running numbers on family trusts. If the trust owned by mum, dad, and 19-year-old daughter earns $180,000 a year and they distribute $60,000 to each the tax will be three times $9,000 = $27000. At 30% flat, it's $54,000. That's double - The only way out is to change distributions to wages, but they must be able to justify the wage. It's a shameful attack on business

Housing should be a home first, not a way to build wealth. Reforming negative gearing and the capital gains tax discount is a strong start, but the revenue must be reinvested in social and affordable housing and adequate income support so everyone can live a decent life.
