Nearly 800 prisoners are now helping to battle Los Angeles wildfires. The participating individuals are paid between $5.80 and $10.24 per day plus $1 an hour when responding to active emergencies, according to CDCR.

Also, these fire camps are hard to get into with a long waiting list. The inmate firefighters recieve extensive training, reduced sentences, and career opportunities for when their sentences are complete. These volunteer firefighters ARE HEROES.
