JB Pritzker bragged about Illinois population growth at the City Club of Chicago this afternoon, touting his welcoming ordinance while claiming the growth has nothing to do with illegal immigration. Chicago absorbed over 51,000 illegals since 2022. That surge tripled the unhoused population and drove 93% of the 14,590 jump in sheltered homelessness between 2022 and 2024. Nationally, the foreign-born population accounts for two-thirds of all rental demand growth per HUD data amid a 4.7M unit housing shortage. Pritzker can brag about Illinois’ population ‘boom’ all he wants. The growth he’s celebrating is the illegal immigration his sanctuary-state policies and Chicago’s Welcoming City Ordinance keep attracting. While real Illinois families keep fleeing high taxes and crime, his welcome mat just masks the exodus.
