BREAKING: In a major victory for Democrats, Donald Trump just chose to endorse the weakest possible candidate for Senate in Texas. This is a major victory for James Talarico and bolsters our chances at victory there. Let's go!

@redheadedjenius @ReneDuba @RepGregLandsman Right now, there is a loophole in the law that allows non-citizens to vote in U.S. elections. What’s your alternative to document you are a citizen?

@JJDay25728766 @ReneDuba @RepGregLandsman Except my name change was and is legal and is on every single document I have except my birth certificate, but suddenly that's inadequate. I have had this name longer than my maiden name. I shouldn't have to provide more paperwork to prove my legal identity than anyone else.

The bill references multiple documents. That’s why I think this is disingenuous when it comes to married women. What is in the bill is the same standard for getting a passport. You have to provide your birth certificate to show you were born in the U.S. (or naturalized with the appropriate documents) then, you provide your marriage certificate, & a picture ID, all to prove that the person applying for the passport is the same person & is a U.S. citizen. And — for marginalized communities — they live with documentation & bureaucracy nightmares every day. If people apply for Medicaid, they have to prove they qualify and that the child applicant is their child. Everyone (biological parents & child applicant) have to have birth certificates to show everyone is who they claim to be. Same thing for a lot of food insecurity programs. Section 8 requirements are crazy documentation heavy. Unemployment, SSI….on and on and on. Democrats acting like they are incapable of providing these documents indicates to me that they don’t have any idea of the onerous requirements to receive government assistance. Or, they are using them as a scapegoat….

@RTNCPROUD @RepGregLandsman You're being disingenuous. I LEGALLY changed my name on my marriage 40 years ago and all of my ID reflects that. And none of it means anything to this bill. Yes, I can produce my marriage license etc. but I did this LEGALLY years ago and they just decided to rescind all of that.

@raidersfan1979 @RepGregLandsman Voter ID already exists - when you register to vote, you get a card showing your registration. This is both nonsense and just piling on more bullcrap so people have a more tedious time digging out of it in hopes they won't bother.

The SAVE Act is yet another bogus attempt by Republicans to suppress the vote — and this time, they’re targeting women. This bill would make it damn near impossible for millions of women who changed their last name after marriage to cast a ballot. Let’s be clear: this isn’t about election integrity — it’s about voter suppression. And trust, my @DemWomenCaucus colleagues and I are not letting it slide.

@MtuwaMaoni @RepJasmine When you buy alcohol, do you have to produce your birth certificate and any documentation regarding your name change such as a marriage license or passport along with your current ID?

@RepJasmine When you buy alcohol at the store,do they ask for your ID? Or when entering a government building with security,do they ask for your ID? The list is long. When making a major decision for the country,as a citizen it is a right to get a secured election, show your ID.

@currermell @RepJasmine And your birth certificate, provided everything is notarized and the person registering you is willing to accept your documents, since there is no national standard for what they should look like. Also, it's disingenuous to pretend we all carry our marriage certificates.

@RepJasmine It would not make it damned near impossible 🙄 All we need to take with us is our marriage certificate, court documents, or divorce docs. Just like we do when we do anything else.

@monipridragon12 @RepJasmine Driver's license is not valid ID in this case. Neither is a social security card, which you must be a citizen to get and would reflect a married name. Neither is a Real ID, which requires all of the same documentation as a passport.

@RepJasmine Let me guess she probably has never been married and because of this has no idea of what the actual process entails. I know my sisters both got married and they both have drivers licenses. They have their husbands name and it doesn’t appear with all that hard to do.

@Rlenks @Aku_700 @RepJasmine Social security cards also not valid. Real ID, which requires the same documentation as a passport, is not valid. Passports are expensive and take months to get right now. The problem is bigger than who gets a driver's license.

@Aku_700 @RepJasmine The problem with drivers licenses is the blue states have allowed anyone to get a drivers license . No citizenship needed……. Therefore can’t use them as national id………

@imtherocketdude @AskPerplexity @lybrti @RepJasmine @grok That part is easy, yes. I changed my name 40 years ago when I married. The problem with the SAVE act is that it makes most forms of ID inadequate when registering to vote, including a Real ID which requires the same documentation as a passport and is still not valid. 1/2

Josseli Barnica, was denied the immediate emergency medical care she needed when she went to the hospital experiencing a miscarriage. The delay in care cost Josseli her life. After arriving at the hospital she was told that, “They had to wait until there was no heartbeat, It would be a crime to give her an abortion.” Josseli was forced to suffer for 40 hours before she was given necessary medical care, at which point she had developed an infection which she would not survive. Josseli died because she was denied prompt emergency medical care. She should have been given an immediate abortion, but instead she was denied such care because of the unethical laws which deny women life saving care in Texas.
