For two days, we have been in deep reflection with elders from the Sabaot, Iteso, and Bukusu communities, revisiting the journey of the #MabangaPeaceAccord, a landmark agreement signed in 2011 with the promise of healing, justice, and lasting peace.
Fourteen years on, the story remains painfully unfinished. What was meant to be a pathway to economic empowerment, social dignity, cultural recognition, and peaceful co-existence has largely remained a document on paper. Despite being witnessed by former Vice President Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka and the former @NCIC_Kenya Commissioner, the Accord, has suffered from minimal government support and weak implementation.
The same concerns raised in 2011 persist today: land tenure insecurity, stalled resettlement, limited economic opportunities, and cycles of violence. Communities feel abandoned, yet their voices remain clear and resolute.
The message from Sabaot, Iteso, and Bukusu elders is simple and urgent:
They want genuine inclusion.
They want equal opportunities.
They want acknowledgement, recognition, and justice.
Peace can not survive on promises alone. It must be implemented.
