Loved the videos on assistive technologies and grateful to know about the DO-IT program. Makes me wonder what can be done about the lack of awareness and the red tape surrounding it. What if degrees in education offered specialization in AT? #cit602

@JonPenas Even though I did web analytics for several years before coming to teaching, I struggle with the use of technology as a teacher. And every time I get frustrated I remind myself how amaziny useful it is for children with disabilities and my attitude gets better immediately.

M14 it was inspiring to see the amount of successful learners with disabilities utilizing assistive technology. It is crucial to be able to identify which devices utilize their abilities physically and mentally in order to effectively comprehend, communicate and master.#cit602

@ChrisFromOrbit Quite frankly, I was having quite some trouble with scratch and I had to get some help from my 15 year old nephew. He did agree with me that scratch wasn’t as intuitive, and he validated some of my frustrations. However, I enjoyed coding.

BTW when my 8 year old say my coding assignment he said, "I love this stuff, can I do this assignment for you?" It probably would have been way better if I had let him. I "failed" many times to make it do what I wanted. #cit602

#cit602 #module10 I like that Dawson points out about coding that, "failure is part of the process." I am always trying to get my science classes to understand the value of failing in science and the elimination of the "wrong" answers. Students are too afraid of being wrong

Also love the code.org video & article which reaffirm that the diversity issue is really an equal opportunity issue. We shouldn’t be surprised to see any kid, white, black, or brown, excel at coding or any other discipline, given the right opportunity. #cit602

Loved Gerard Dawson’s admission in the second article, having to correct herself and recall what it’s like to be a struggling beginner. That’s how we experience growth mindset. I can completely relate to that experience as I try to teach the learners of this generation. #cit602

(Cont.) I would absolutely recommend the Pi- Fight game because this is a part of math that is pure memorization. And we all know how difficult that is. Besides, I know how it’s like to learn this and teach this the “bland” way. Very impressed #cit602

@Francis96600393 I have to admit that I was one of those critics who thought technology is making our students nothing but expert guessers. And maybe there’s some truth to that but I have decided to not let the negatives outweigh the immense benefits of technology in education. I’m a convert now!

(4/7) Just looking at this, I can tell that teachers may have some doubts on the use of technology such as students are not learning, they are just making educated guess, or they is only computer and student interaction which is not beneficial to the student. #cit602

I chose the pi- fight interactive game. The link to it is nctm.org/Classroom-Reso…. It is copyrighted by NCTM and the purpose is to provide high quality teaching-learning opportunity to all. #cit602

I posted my survey on Twitter as I am unable to find classmate emails. Only 1 response so far. I have tweeted others asking them to take it. What else can I do to get more responses please?

@BaldomeroCoron3 @unlvpg I learn by mimicking so I never really thought of other possibilities as a student. But then if I was shown that there were possibilities to be creative in getting assignments done, I am sure I would’ve mimicked the idea of being adventurous and innovative. Students deserve that!

@unlvpg @SCollins24 @ThomasR09152848 Like the idea of frequent concerns checklist. One that I face often is the use of ramps and curb cuts not just by those who need but more so by those who don’t need. In the process of allowing choice, how can we address those who use the ramp for ease and distraction. #cit602

@SCollins24 @ThomasR09152848 That would be a great idea! You’d still need to understand and work with the core ideas for the shorthand to be relevant, but it would be quite helpful. Maybe as an infographic that can be posted in a classroom? 😉 #cit602

Module 5- Interesting to know that the what’s, the how’s, and the why’s are processed by three different parts of the brain. I’d love to let students explore their own interests and autonomy while learning algebra but can I? 9 months just isn’t enough to hit all standards #cit602

@BaldomeroCoron3 I remember working with a new IT grad who had this habit of pulling files from servers to save on her computer to work on. And did not back up regularly. She got fired after two mishaps.#cit602

So if elementary kids are learning the use of technology in such a collaborative and healthy sense, how is it that they are so “digitally aloof” by the time they come to high school? Where is the breakdown happening? It can’t all be hormones.#cit602

Module 3 Loved the video on media literacy. How young and yet how good at evaluating, navigating, creating, and responding. Also the next video where students create a digital superhero. What a brilliant way to teach responsibility, safety, narrative, and creativity. Fun!#cit602
