The old Arabist ‘Camel Corps’ of the British Foreign Office in full cry. Nothings changes. Twas always thus. Attacks on Jews are the fault of Jews for not being sufficiently robust in criticising Israel. Hamas gets a pass. Even antisemitism is in quotes as if it’s not really a thing.
Marika Cobbold@Marikacobbold

In his very own Modest Proposal, former ambassador Sir Tony Brenton tells British Jews that if we don't like being firebombed, stabbed and shot, all we need to do is publicly submit to - and pass - his political purity test. Good-oh, Sir Tony.

@NaomiFromKent @BBCPanorama @PSCupdates I now rarely watch anything @BBC airs regarding Israel or Gaza, because I know the bias will be horrendous. I have complained multiple times and received unsatisfactory replies. The damage they have done in their complicity is unforgivable. Good luck taking them on!

Let the truth be told, let the press be free. 📰 Journalists hold power to account, uncover injustice, and keep citizens informed often at great personal risk. This #WorldPressFreedomDay, we reaffirm our commitment to protecting journalists and defending independent media. Because free press is the foundation of democracy.

Here, Krishnan Guru-Murthy asks Daniel Levy if he thinks the Israeli government and Netanyahu “bear some responsibility for the threats to British Jews right now.” “I think the Israeli government is reckless when it comes to how they view Jewish well-being.” 🎯

The amount of tax paid by the rich just illustrates the inequality of a system that can collect more revenue taxing the rich at a far lower % of their wealth compared to lower income deciles that are taxed a greater % of their wealth.
Institute of Economic Affairs@iealondon

🇬🇧 Britain has no wealth tax. Yet it raises more tax from wealth than every country that does - Spain, Switzerland and Norway - and every other OECD nation. We shouldn't be looking for more ways to tax wealth. We should be looking at more ways to create it.👇️

Asked if he thinks Israel committed genocide in Gaza, Obama accuses the questioner of not following the rules, then says “there are disasters and catastrophes everywhere” Obama is a historically inconsequential former president who believes in nothing but his own celebrity

@aljhlester It seems to me the Right and Left are after him as well as all those with a modicum of conscience. There are those who might be called ‘Centrists’ who still support Starmer.

I think he’s absolutely right. A huge conservative alliance that’s now bought into far right ideas that were once marginal, is determined to bring down Starmer’s (and any Labour successor’s) government. Progressives, whether Left or liberal need to stop playing into their hands.

Mark Gatiss: "I don't understand the antipathy towards Keir Starmer" The actor – currently starring in a play lampooning fascism – argues that the PM is doing a good job, but from the press he gets "you'd think he was Vlad the Impaler". Listen on the New Society podcast.

The most dishonest thing Benny Morris does is pretend he hasn't radically changed his views of Zionism. In Righteous Victims, he literally referred to the Zionist settlers as "white Europeans" engaged in a "colonial" project vis the "natives." Elsewhere describes how Jewish immigrants of the First Aliyah treated Palestinian Arabs "like the indigenous peoples in other places colonized by Europeans."

I’m not sure why we still have a monarch. It seems like a medieval anachronism to me; a demonstration of inherited status and the the pinnacle of an entrenched aristocracy. And I’m really not sure why our monarch has gone to the US to stand next to another man with too much power, land and money.

This is simply unreal. No wonder the UK is heading into a debt crisis. The UK doesn’t need higher taxes, you need pro-business policies to stop entrepreneurs leaving and get people working again instead of living on welfare without work requirements. What needs to happen?

Excellent speech by King Charles. So good to hear the clarion cry for Ukraine, for NATO, for nature and the environment, for democracy and the checks on power. JFK mentioned more than Trump. Starmer directly quoted. Europe mentioned several times. Vance looked ill. I loved it. Loved the confidence in British and European values

If you studied economics and learned about loanable funds theory and quantity theory of money, but didn't learn about reserve accounting, private debt or govt monetary operations, then you were taught a bunch of outdated crap.

Honor a Weyand.

I think the US, supported by the international community, should demand iron-clad guarantees from Tehran that Iran will not be the first state to introduce nuclear weapons into the Middle East. This should be a non-negotiable precondition for the repeal of sanctions.

*Except in his own country - France - where he is the least popular leader in Europe. Literally: YouGov's March 2026 European leader tracker put him at only 19% favourable in France, against 20% for Starmer in the UK, 26% for Merz in Germany, and 34% for Meloni in Italy (yougov.com/en-gb/articles…) That's the Macron paradox: he is like a beach with sewage - pretty from afar but horrible when you swim there.

The UK’s most senior progressive rabbis have warned that Israel’s current political direction risks becoming “incompatible with Jewish values”, while insisting that criticism of the country’s government is “a Jewish obligation” rather than an act of disloyalty. Rabbi Charley Baginsky and Rabbi Josh Levy, co-leads of Progressive Judaism – the newly formed movement representing around a third of synagogues in the UK – said Israel’s trajectory could pose an “existential threat” not just to the country itself but to Judaism. “We’ve often talked about the direction of Israel being an existential threat not to Jews per se, but to Judaism,” Baginsky said. “What happens when the direction of the government within Israel takes Israel down a line that makes it incompatible with our Jewish values? That’s a huge worry.” theguardian.com/world/2026/apr…
