If you have a fantasy football draft this weekend, here are some players/ situations I have complex stances on: Josh Jacobs Dalton Kincaid De’Von Achane Blake Corum Patrick Mahomes/ CJ Stroud/ Joe Burrow Deep dives on each below: Josh Jacobs is a former first round pick that is 26 and a year removed from leading the league in rushing. He scored 301.8 fantasy points in Underdog’s scoring system that year. He’ll play for the best team and the best offense of his pro career this season. He also voluntarily elected to move from Las Vegas, Nevada to northern Wisconsin to play football outdoors in winter. Money was no doubt a factor in that decision, but it wasn’t the only one and as he’s claimed today, the Chiefs wanted him. If that’s true KC viewed him as an in-division difference maker, like the Eagles did with Saquon Barkley, and the Chiefs decision makers should be trusted. It’s worth noting that the 49ers and Eagles have recently brought in premium RBs via trade or free agency, likely because you can get guys like CMC or Barkley for less money than Gabe Davis is making in Jacksonville. Green Bay decided to sign Jacobs, while the Chiefs kicked the tires on him. SF and KC have been the two best teams in the league the last half decade. SF, KC, PHi, GB have four of the best rosters in the league and if I was an NFL team doing opposition research, it appears as if those organizations see a market inefficiency with premium running backs. I’d rather have any of those guys and several million dollars than Gabe Davis myself. I’m betting that Josh Jacobs was not brought in to fill the exact same role that Aaron Jones has held, because they have significantly different styles. Once again, Jacobs decided to sign with Green Bay for a reason, and it definitely wasn’t a lifestyle decision for a guy that was born in Oklahoma while playing in Alabama, California and Vegas. They ran a committee approach in San Francisco until they brought in Christian McCaffrey. Jacobs is not McCaffrey, but he’s absolutely shown that he can perform at a high level as the lead back. Even though I still haven’t forgiven Matt LaFleur for taking so long to elevate clearly special Derrick Henry over Dion Lewis while they were all in Tennessee, I’m betting on Jacobs having a bigger role than many are projecting. I’ve been very willing to be wrong about that with his fifth round ADP in best ball, and based on RB ADP madness on several platforms, I’m good with that bet in the third in season long drafts. Dalton Kincaid has a pretty clear path to leading all tight ends in volume this year given how Buffalo has revamped their wide receiver room. He also has a path to a workload reduction due to the existence of Dawson Knox. When I first watched Kincaid in college I thought he was a wide receiver, so my bet here is that Kincaid sees Travis Kelce type deployments while Knox is a better version of Noah Gray, who tends to lead KC in inline snaps. I saw that general intent to a degree last season. In tournaments especially, this is the type of thing that I’m completely willing to be wrong on. De’Von Achane: I’ve made a few tweets lately that led some to believe that I’m fading Achane. I am not, especially not in tournaments because he has slate breaking upside in any given week in that offense. I just think his downside is more considerable than most do and if you’re super high on him, he’s either a no brainer OPOY longshot bet or you don’t actually believe he can be the most productive RB this season. His size, Mike McDaniel’s history of running a hot hand approach at RB, Miami’s talent-poor OL (yes, McDaniel elevates that group, as he does the whole offense) and that Achane had a quarter of his production late in a very strange game against Denver are all noteworthy. Also, while we're here, I've watched every snap of every game since 2014. I'm throwing out that Denver game when projecting Achane this year because that exact situation probably never happens again, similar to the game where the Raiders destroyed the Chargers last year or when the Baker Mayfield Rams annihilated the Broncos in 2022. My favorite part about Achane this season is actually his potential passing game usage, because one way to mitigate a talent-poor offensive line is to get quick passes in the hands of dynamic athletes. So, I’m not fading Achane, I’ve been right around consensus on him all year, but I see more downside than most do. He and Mostert are in a very similar situation to Gibbs/ Montgomery, although the Lions have a much better OL and I think Gibbs is a better all around player than Achane, who I’d comp to Napolean Kaufman. Blake Corum: My guy @NicBodifordNFL was the first person I saw on Kyren Williams, back in 2022. I mention it all the time because it's one of the most impressive calls I've ever seen someone make. My explanation for Williams’ monster year last year is that Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford are historic talent elevators and Williams is the kind of player that thrives with those guys: smart and reliable. I would not call Williams a dynamic athlete, but he’s patient, smart and reliable. A good football player, if you will. The Rams also didn’t have anyone else last year and Corum is a more dynamic athlete than Williams, to the point I’d call it obvious. I think McVay’s decision to have Williams return punts is to get the most out of what is actually a below average overall roster. It seems that he’s more interested in giving Corum more of an early season role than he is in trusting anyone else more than Williams to return punts. I expect Williams to be the guy because he’s earned it and one of the reasons rookie RBs see the field far less often than most seem to believe they do is because assignments come before production. Especially when you have a veteran pocket passer like Stafford with a significant injury history. But this is a situation where Corum can become a league winner if Williams goes down and where Corum can earn a bigger role as the season progresses, because he is the more dynamic athlete. Patrick Mahomes/ CJ Stroud/ Joe Burrow: I’m an awards market guy so when I’m looking at fantasy quarterbacks I ask myself this question: Can this person lead the league in touchdowns, because that’s the guy who tends to win the MVP most years. If I were a betting man, and I am, I'd bet on that trio to finish in the top three in touchdown passes this year. I could see Mahomes meeting, maybe even exceeding his monster 2018 production. We have everything from positive regression, to a much better pass catching group, to dynamic speed on the table here. I considered making Mahomes my overall QB1 all offseason. Stroud and Burrow are very similar guys, with the caveat that Burrow has been doing it longer and taken it further. Burrow is also coming off a season ending injury, which shouldn’t be outright ignored. I also think the quality of the Texans wide receiver group is being overstated. Nico Collins isn’t Calvin Johnson and Buffalo not only let Stefon Diggs walk, but they traded him to an AFC contender. That means either the decision makers in Buffalo have lost their minds, which is possible since they allowed KC to get Worthy, or the Bills aren’t overly worried about the 2024 version of Diggs. Collins/ Diggs/ Tank Dell is nice, but if we’re being honest, any of those three guys would likely be the third option in Cincinnati this season. I liked Nico Collins when Davis Mills was his quarterback, but I think what happened last year was more about Stroud than Collins. Anyway, I think Stroud and Burrow are essentially the same bet.

@zed350 @KariyaMeHome @ChargersCountry @chargers True - but I don't think there's perfect information share / known chemistry. There are times where coaches simply shine more than expected (Demeco Ryans caused Texans to cut process short). Also where interviews are rushed because it's foregone conclusion (Rhule + Topper).

@regaldahn @KariyaMeHome @ChargersCountry @chargers I think that would imply that they had no clue who the person was before interviewing them. People in league know each other or know someone who does. They know exactly what they want to do before they interview. No one is hired on a whim.

@zed350 @KariyaMeHome @ChargersCountry @chargers An extra interview is little of a burden. If an unexpected candidate from a minority background wows in interviews and they give him/ her a chance, then that's great progress. The rule is about exposure currently, rather than simply hiring #rooneyrule

@KariyaMeHome @ChargersCountry @chargers I think making just a rule to address issue at hand is the worst possible/most lazy solution. You got to have people come up and get jobs on basis of merit and not just some quota system. Money needs to be spent at grassroots level to get more minority coaches into coaching pool.

@TopUmbreon @catholicpat I was denied entry to a sporting event as my backpack (full of things) was not a see through bag. I put the full back pack in a big see through bag. Allowed in. All makes sense.

@catholicpat I was getting on a flight to go back to college. I had some bread and peanut butter. TSA Made me throw out my PB. She offered to let me make a sandwich with it first. Which begs the question, if I had used up the entire jar to make sandwiches, why would that have been ok?

I tried to take peanut butter through airport security. TSA: Sorry, no liquids, gels, or aerosols. Me: I want you to tell me which of those things you think peanut butter is.

I expect the Chargers to NOT lead the league in plays per game. I expect Justin Herbert to be less effective in his 2nd year than in his rookie year. Sophomore slumps are WAY more common for QBs vs. WR/RBs. Plan accordingly when projecting the offense.
