@redheadranting There was (is?) a podcast started sometime around 2019 called “My worst date” The first episodes were unbelievably hilarious. Eventually it became stupid and somewhat woke, but man those first episodes were good.

I'm putting the final edits on Bad Dates: A Cautionary Tale! So in the meantime be sure to pick up my other two books. I know, am awful at self promotion. I was going to rewrite this because of the algo change, but apparently I wrote this one for the last algo change so let's see if this one goes a little farther. Or is it further? Anyway, click through and buy my books. Thank you, you guys are the ones who make this possible.

Alas, Mr. Congressman, I'm not lying. And I started this line of questioning assuming you were telling the truth. I've written long essays on extremist Israeli violence in the West Bank. I know it happens. I was ready, at first glance, to believe it happened here. But it didn't. This wasn't Israeli violence. This was agitprop for your American audiences. I said explicitly that I'm not familiar with the details of that area. It took a lot of effort for JPost to find out what it found out -- which was that it was a closed military zone only recently opened. But if you'd coordinated your visit with Israeli authorities, this would have been sorted out from the start. Those soldiers weren't angry or aggressive, they seemed mostly just confused about the status of the area and how to handle your visit. Because, you know, there was no coordination. JPost suggests all that in the article you yourself shared. And what of the violence? Your group had cameras -- a professional photographer and at least one bodycam -- yet you've produced no evidence that I've seen of the violence you claim to have experienced. Remember that you claimed the violence was sufficient to demand that Netanyahu order the prosecution of those soldiers. I've seen that sort of violence before; if you produce that footage, I'll join your demand for prosecution. That's not rhetoric. I really will, wholeheartedly. But if you don't, I think it's safe to assume you blew up a small inconvenience caused by your own refusal to talk to Israelis. In a similar vein, you used the word "detained" as if you were unlawfully held against your will -- and hide behind its second meaning, that you were a bit delayed in driving forward into the area. The first is on the spectrum of kidnapping crimes, the second is the sort of problem you'd encounter at the entrance to a federal building as you search your pockets for an ID. Which was it? Anyway, you were angling for some domestic political brownie points, and congratulations, you got 'em.
Ro Khanna@RoKhanna

You are lying @havivrettiggur. The Jerusalem Post, which leans right, concluded that it was not a closed zone & vigilante settlers had no right to detain Americans. Stop gaslighting Americans. jpost.com/israel-news/ar…

@DefiantLs Elon Musk arrived in California in 1995 when Pete Wilson was governor, a republican. He started PayPal in 2000 when Arnold Schwarzenegger was governor. He owes nothing to California democrats. In fact they’ve been nothing but a thorn in his side

Gavin Newsom Says Elon Musk is ‘Turning His Back’ on California “Regulation in California created the conditions that allowed him to take the risk to become the multi-billionaire, maybe trillionaire, that he’s become … Now he’s turning his back on the state that promoted him.”

One party rule in California has made our state government more interested in ideological extremism than the things that matter to working people. Enough is enough—when I'm governor my priority is $3 gas, your first $150k tax-free, cutting your electric bills in half, bringing back the starter home. ☀️👊

I am a big train guy. I like trains more than is justified on the merits. I like to ride on trains. I like to look at trains. I like to watch videos of trains with my young son. But even between New England and New York City — the best train route in the United States — I will very often drive. It’s just easier. The car is right here at my house. We can stop anywhere we want for lunch along the way. We can do little side trips to check something out if we want. We can leave when we want. It’s easier to pack. It’s cheaper. It’s just better. Personal vehicles are just better. In any case where personal vehicles are a viable option, people are going to choose them. And they do choose them, as much as this frustrates the urbanists and transit enthusiasts.
Mark Hemingway@Heminator

The obvious reason we haven’t invested in this is that there’s a widely available third option that costs about $40 worth of gas.

WOAH 🚨 My jaw literally dropped listening to this The Los Angeles Police Department came and tried to clean up Skid Row and in a response a nonprofit working with Mayor Karen Bass SUED THEM and stopped police from EVEN BEING ALLOWED TO ENTER “LA CAN, which is another organization (an NGO), they get very, very upset and they sue the LAPD when they come and do street cleaning down here. And they're basically saying that their encampments are their Private property. Police can't enter, and they sued the police more than any other organization” Translation: They are suing to keep the homeless population right where they are so the NGO homeless money laundering industrial complex keeps running This same NGO has also launched protests to stop Skid Row from being cleaned up Pure insanity. It’s criminal

@18Elmo_18 @lauriewired They spliced the tape diagonally so that as one piece of tape is fading out, the other is fading in. This can do a good job of masking the discontinuity between the sections, and the beginning of "crossfading" which is done digitally all the time, epically in sampler loops

@remodelnerd @lauriewired If i may ask.... how did old-school literal splicing of actual tape work so well and seamlessly, even with classical music (i.e. acoustically complex instruments)? Surely it wasn't accurate to 0.00002 seconds.

Real Time Audio on general purpose operating systems is ridiculously hard to code. Unfortunately (and unlike the visual system!) humans are *really* good at noticing audio hitches. In video, you might have ~16ms to process a video frame, and if you miss the deadline, eh, just continue to display the existing frame. It’ll hitch…but a lot of people won’t notice. The eye is fairly forgiving, mostly deals in averages. If you miss a SINGLE audio sample (.00002 sec at 44.1khz!) it’s super obvious! The ear was basically made to detect discontinuities in waveforms; the real life equivalent would be like a twig snapping. The waveform collapse (single audio sample dropped) spreads energy across every frequency band at once, almost every hair cell in your cochlea fires! There’s not really a great way to fix this. You can sample and hold, (either just the sample or the whole buffer), but the splice to the next chunk will have a *very* audible seam. Smarter systems will crossfade, and then really intelligent protocols like modern bluetooth will attempt to pitch-bend the seam. But every single one of those “fixes” costs latency and CPU time…which you don’t have in real time audio!

@MHTruthUltra Buying someone's proprietary way to make a lot of $$ is dumb. Dude, if it works spend time on that & don't waste energy making a "course". But some really good guitar players who don't make much money playing guitar sell courses on how to play guitar. They're often worthwhile.
