Today’s patch comes with some major changes. Personally, I think if this had been the patch released at the start of Season 3, a lot of people would have accepted it as a genuine back to basics.
Some are saying Bryan made it through today’s patch untouched, but I don’t see it that way. Bryan was already nerfed the moment Season 3 began, in advance, in the same way we’re now seeing changes like a 600 reduction to the Heat meter. That’s why this patch doesn’t really have much substance for him.
There will probably be pro players claiming Bryan is the strongest after this patch, but they usually just say it without proving it themselves. The reason is probably simple: if they actually picked him up, they wouldn’t be able to get that kind of performance out of him. Most of them likely won’t even try.
It’s already been over two years since T8 release. At this point, I think pro players would be better off studying matchups more seriously.
This patch will make some people happy and others unhappy. In the end, I just hope everyone enjoys the game 🙏

@spaghetti_za T8 is the worst example of this because the top players are literally the same and haven't changed at all. SF6 is a good example of this.

I feel this is only true if you lower the barrier of entry. If you completely flatten the skill gap like T8, it becomes harder for experienced players to win consistently

Been saying it since 2015. If a game is just simplified, it's 2x as easy for new players, but 10x easier for experienced players. If a game has characters you love, doing cool stuff together/against each-other, people will justify reasons to keep playing at any level.

@VoiceOfFrenzy @TEKKEN Not to try to protect them, but in software development, the ́last number is always bug fixes. So the april patch was always bug fix, the late spring is balance. Look up semantic versioning

One thing that I really liked about characters in the past is that their punishment options often meant certain matchups were difficult.
E.g. Before Bryan had FC df21, doing certain lows against him was safer and it was a weakness of his. Also some chars only having i16 launchers so -15 was safer (Negan powercrush example in T7).
Would be nice to unstandardise punishment carefully so characters excel or slightly struggle in matchups, rather than most characters having mostly solid options.
