There are some very good technocrats in most Government ministries. They are there quietly doing their work, away from the limelight, away from the noise, just getting on with it. I don’t know who this lady is and had never heard of her before, but she certainly caught my attention with her detailed presentation on the planned improvements to Harare’s road infrastructure. She is clear, informed and confident. Harare Drive may finally get its “missing link” completed, although to be fair we first heard that back in February 2016 😅 There are also plans for the dualisation of Churchill Road, hopefully all the way through Gunhill and onto Enterprise Road, which from this presentation appears set to be dualised right up to the Shamva turnoff. I also learnt that the chaotic St Patrick’s/Airport Road crossing in Hatfield is earmarked for major improvement, with St Patrick’s Road set to fly over Airport Road. That junction can back traffic all the way to the SPCA roundabout during peak hours. Dieppe Road, from the Post Office Sorting Office to Coca-Cola Corner, badly needs attention too. Same applies to the stretch from the Sorting Office roundabout past Cranborne up to Churu Farm Flats in Rhodesville. That road needed dualisation about 40 years ago. Its a pain in the ass. This is why I have always believed many civil servants genuinely want to do their jobs professionally. It is often the political appointees who slow progress, frustrate implementation and drag capable people backwards. Anyway, we thank the flowering tree when we finally eat and enjoy its fruit. And we shall be grateful when the cattle are watered after spending the whole day being herded by a mad man. @MoLGPWZim @MinistryofTID

@Cecilia97N I want to believe their government has done excellent work in opening democracy in as much as freedom of association is concerned. In many African countries that is taken as a threat to overthrow the government so no more than 100 people should gather

@advocatemahere @CyrilRamaphosa Supposed our guys asked for names of the delegation in advance, how does that look diplomatically? Does it mean they don't trust Zim? And how does it look from a Zim security point of view when SA is asking for names of their President's delegation? Does it look suspicious?

CAF President Patrice Motsepe says many African countries avoid bidding to host tournaments because they fear financial losses. As a result, Morocco 🇲🇦 often steps in, even for less profitable events like the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations or futsal championships. Motsepe said Morocco helps “save the situation” when no other bids are submitted. The country has strong infrastructure and a clear willingness to host. While not always the only option, Morocco has become CAF’s most reliable partner for filling hosting gaps.

A man who was beaten, chased, and later handed over to police during a recent anti-foreigner march in KwaZulu-Natal has been confirmed to be a legal South African citizen, despite being accused by participants of being a foreigner. According to his account, he had joined the march believing he was supporting his country, but was instead targeted by the crowd because of his dark complexion and his inability to speak isiZulu. He said he was attacked by the same group he had marched with before being handed over to authorities. Speaking after the incident, the man described feeling deeply hurt by what had happened and said he hopes his children will not have to face similar discrimination in their own country.

In good news. Hundreds of well wishers have contributed to a fund for Science Teacher Chikwava. It’s a solid leg up that will take him off cooking on the street. God bless him and his family with this new lease of income and chance at life. The location vacation will create a vacuum. Someone else will take it. The incentive and precedent is set. Someone else did it and got rewarded , so can I. Zimbabweans on X and FB have overwhelmingly said thy don’t care about Street food and hygiene standard. Or salmonella. Or cholera. Show me the incentive. I’ll show you the outcome. Sadza kuvanhu.

FROM OUR INBOX💔: On Monday 16 Feb I was driving along Enterprise Rd in Harare. I pulled off the road to wait for my daughter who was supposed to be driving behind me but I could not see her in the rear view mirror. I was afraid she had gotten lost because we went to live in England when she was 11yrs old. We were both carrying visitors from Nigeria. While parked two young people , a woman and a man both dressed in City of Harare Police Uniform approached me and said I had been arrested for parking in an undesignated parking space. I apologised and said I was happy to pay a spot fine. They said for my kind of crime there was no spot fine. They said they were impounding the vehicle. They said the fine was $172.00 and $30 for ZRP making a total of $202. They said they were taking me to their Central Stores where impounded cars are parked and they would release the car after receiving the payment. They asked the passengers to disembark. I pleaded that they were foreigners and they would not know where to go. They would not listen and they insisted the passengers four ladies, of foreign nationality disembark the car ! I had to leave them by the road side. The two got into my car, the woman in front the man at the back. I was ordered to drive to Central stores in Coventry Rd. When we got to Central Stores they made me park in what they said was the holding bay. They said they were phoning their supervisor to come and hear my story and he would decide whether I pay the fine or impound the car. Soon after I parked a man appeared from behind the buses. They introduced him as the supervisor. He did not ask me anything. He just said for them to accept the fine and let me go. This is when I realised I had been conned ! I was tempted to refuse to pay but the man sitting behind me and the " supervisor" looked very menacing and evil. I handed over $200 . They got out of the car. I was so shaken I couldn't ask for the receipt I just drove away. I have reported the matter to the police. Fortunately if the three get caught I can recognise all three ! @JMafume

@JMafume @takabatana But what was the rationale behind cutting parking fees in a CBD that has a scarcity of parking space & the population of vehicles is huge? A hike in parking fees would have helped in reducing unnecessary flow of traffic into the CBD

Dear Mayor @JMafume, why is Harare yet to reduce parking fees in compliance with SI 41 of 2026, which has capped the fees at US$0,50 per hour? We understand the SI's provisions took effect three days ago.
