If I had to guess. A) Kevin Warsh does not, in fact, cut rates and B) Trump doesn't blow a gasket, and is weirdly chill about it

No, most people are probably not motivated by a desire to learn “truth,” supported by a rigorous evidentiary standard, when they listen to podcasts. But why should this absolve the podcast proprietors for spewing a constant tsunami of absolute bullshit? Especially when the podcasts in question are increasingly being consumed as the main source of “news” for giant masses of people, and have increasingly become the most influential “media” in general, particularly for younger demographics? Given this newfound stature, should it just be blithely accepted for all eternity that zero factual or evidentiary standards will ever apply in this one particular sector of the media? Notwithstanding its increasingly outsized political and cultural influence?
Mark Blair | Technosociologist@mblair

@mtracey Do you think that most people are motivated by a desire to learn "truth", supported by a rigorous evidentiary standard, when they listen to other people talk?

Kids in Lower Merion school district in Pennsylvania get iPads starting in kindergarten, switch to Chromebooks in second grade and get their own MacBooks in eighth grade. Hundreds of parents signed a petition asking to preserve their ability to opt their children out of using digital devices during the school day. The school district has pushed back, saying it’s not feasible to let hundreds of students opt out of technology that is essential to the curriculum.

@AndrewHartory I’m not saying to do this. But the choice isn’t between obsequiousness or acting like maniacs. If they were just normal, they’d get so much from the guy that people on the right would have been pining for Mitt Romney.

Khanna, Massie, Lurie, and Zohran have demonstrated how anti-status quo politics can work for people with different ideologies. The Dems need more creative destruction and laboratories of reform. My case for Moulton, Mahan, and yes Platner. thebulwark.com/p/the-status-q…

Can't stop thinking about Elon Musk, the wealthiest man alive worth $828 billion, spending $290 million to elect Trump, becoming $563 billion richer since Trump was elected and ending humanitarian aid that will lead to the deaths of 4.5 million of the poorest kids on the planet.

Exclusive: Earlier this spring, a mysterious explosion blew up a car carrying an alleged cartel operative in broad daylight, on one of Mexico’s busiest highways, just outside of its capital city. It was a targeted assassination facilitated by CIA ops officers on the ground. Since last year, CIA operatives inside Mexico have directly participated in deadly attacks on several, mostly mid-level cartel members—a lethal campaign that's gone largely unnoticed. NYT reporting on classified U.S. intelligence assessments of Iranian missile capacity reiterates that they maintained 70% of their missiles and launchers but adds that 90% of their underground storage and launch facilities are also still active. Iran had designed is missile program with the acknowledgement of not being able to protect its airspace and relied on hardened underground "missile cities" to compensate. U.S. and Israeli attacks apparently disabled the entrances to some of these facilities and hit surface buildings. But as many observed at the time the attacks were failing to actually penetrate the underground facilities where the operations were carried out and missiles kept in storage. Most problematically for a renewed campaign the missile complexes near Hormuz are almost all still active according to the assessment. If the U.S. intel assessment is accurate it also explains why Iran was able to maintain a steady rate of missile fire until the end of the war, and also suggests that the U.S. and Israel simply wasted a lot of top-tier standoff munitions firing at rock complexes that it failed to penetrate.

While Canvas was old fashioned hack, seems to me that the one thing we can all agree on is that AI increases the risk of hacking exponentially, so if we didn’t have good enough reasons to have a moratorium on AI and surveillance ed tech in schools that alone would be enough.
