This is a real problem and needs to be addressed in postsecondary, but it is ALSO a big issue in high school CTE programs - many districts get exemptions to offer cosmetology programs under the “regional” programs of study waiver. It’s not right to waste taxpayer dollars on AND waste students’ time when they should be offered higher quality programs. It’s 💯 because of political pressure brought by Big Hair. #txlege should act by ensuring that definitions of credentials of value in Texas (all four of them!) are brought into alignment with workforce outcomes as the anchor… and hold the line against special interests that will beg for exceptions.
