@DrDavidPrice He said he was going to sue me and sent a load of threatening messages and emails when I said he “purported to be a bishop”. A tragicomic masterclass in embitterment and insecurity.

@2D0XPS Whenever I read his posts I have to charitably assume that they are the result- as his surname suggests- of the blood taking that bit longer to get to the brain.

Even your most iconoclastic Protestant does not consider the scissor arch to be a “theological obscenity”. I'm all for a bit of polemic, but can we agree to stop lying about each other?

Fr. Dwight Longenecker@dlongenecker1

@the_culturist_ Protestantism considered such things to not only be irrelevant, but a theological obscenity. People build according to their beliefs.

@liturgicalben I always wonder how J&M or others deal with people like this when they put in their order for all the episcopal bling they can.

Today is the anniversary of the creation of the first Duke of Lancaster, in 1351. Liverpool remains part of the ceremonial county of Lancashire, so this morning we hoisted the Duchy banner in the churchyard, flying by the Mersey.

@DrFrancisYoung @LucySixsmith My Father was an undergraduate in Cambridge during the Big Freeze of '62-'63 and had a friend who planned to ice skate to Ely along Cam but hadn't figured for the warm water outflow from the power station.

Make Carlisle the new capital. A truly archipelagic, British city.
Sam Bowman@s8mb

The president of the Royal Institute of British Architects @CW_Architect, best known for lobbying for laws requiring builders to pay an architect to approve their projects, has called for a giant high speed railway line to be built connecting Dublin, Bangor and Newcastle. “Maybe I have been too influenced by … NEOM the Line in Saudi Arabia, having worked on the high-speed stations running alongside the 170km city for the last few years,” he says.

@michael_merrick It's interesting how these often aren't simply irrational responses to difference, local or otherwise, but drawn deep histories. There are, for instance, two villages in Herefordshire which remain diametrically opposed based on the positions they held in the Civil War.

contemporary insistence that we're inclusive and diversity is our strength struggles to explain the almost universal levels of hyperlocal xenophobia and the extensive catalogue of insults we generally have for the people living in the village 3 miles away

I spent three years at Norwich like 25yrs ago and still to this day have a completely irrational dislike of Ipswich. Also Darlington, for similar reasons. And yet this seems like a completely normal position to hold. I do love this country.
