The Richmond City Council sometimes does a thing where everyone gathers for a scheduled discussion on a topic and says it's very important to discuss while choosing not to discuss it That happened today with the payment register issue richmonder.org/council-commit…

Eliminating income and property taxes in Virginia beginning with those who earn the least should be the campaign slogan for 2027. Replace it with consumption taxes and have higher rates on the most luxurious products. Virginia’s tax code was largely written because of the war of 1812 and it hasn’t changed. It needs to.

People eye-rolling about state VA govt shutting down. It’s never happened! Can it? YES. I wrote a (too) long piece on the question for the Jefferson Forum (@InstituteThomas) KEY POINTS BELOW 1. AG Opinion (2006) says you can’t pay employees or bills stating July 1st

This is why we need action in 2027 automatic appropriations for government when a budget agreement is not agreed to by July 1. House Republican Jay Leftwich carried in 2024 but was left in Rules.

Jeff Bezos on NYC spending: "If we ran Amazon the way New York City runs their school system, packages would take 6 weeks to arrive, we would charge you a $100 delivery fee and when the package did finally arrive, it would have the wrong item in it."

On this day 13 years ago, my only son was sworn in to the US Army. In ten days, it will be 12 years since he was killed in Afghanistan 2 weeks before he was due to come home. He was just 21. This week is also Memorial Day. My greatest fear now is that he will be forgotten. Please help me remember my boy during this tough week of special dates (share if you feel inspired. It never gets easier but the love and support always helps. ♥️🇺🇸 Jacob H Wykstra KIA May 28th, 2014 Maruf, Afghanistan Jake was a Christian, an athlete, a patriot, an artist, dog lover, a friend to all and the funniest, happiest guy in the platoon. Jake, you’ve left a huge void in our lives, but we will see you one day and there will no more heartache and no more goodbyes ♥️🇺🇸

**Yes.** Prescription Drug Affordability Boards (PDABs) that impose upper payment limits (price caps) carry well-documented risks of reduced drug availability and shortages. Pharmacies may stop stocking affected meds, manufacturers can limit supply or exit state markets, and payers may add restrictions—concerns backed by surveys of independent pharmacies and patient groups. While most states with PDABs are still implementing or expanding them, a few (e.g., New Hampshire dissolved its board, Ohio inactivated its council, Virginia vetoed twice) have stepped back over costs, ineffectiveness at lowering patient out-of-pocket expenses, and market harm. Price controls often distort supply incentives without guaranteeing lower costs at the pharmacy counter. Good veto.

Just ask @grok “does drug affordability boards cause drug shortages in states that have them and have most states reformed similar boards because of harm to the market?” Spanberger offered those reforms from other states and was rejected. Price caps do not fix the market. Good veto!

@AssocAnderson When government starts setting prices on commodities, it is communism on the installment plan. If you want to lower prices, then increase supply. Price cap boards destroy supply. You made fun of Harris for trying it with groceries and now you’re cheering for it.

Would you like 3 reasons why the governor vetoed a bill to make drug prices more affordable in Virginia? $25k from AstraZeneca $50k from CVS $50k from Pharma Research Never underestimate a politicians inherent desire to screw over the people that n exchange for campaign contributions.

Sen. Creigh Deeds told me Gov. Spanberger called him and said she is going to veto his legislation that would have established a Prescription Drug Affordability Board in Virginia.

Members of the GAB need to pass a bill that funds core government services even if lawmakers can’t agree on non-essential spending. @GovernorVA worked on this in Congress and we could sure use that non-partisan practicality to avoid entire budgets being held hostage in situations like this.

With all due respect to any members of the General assembly who feel otherwise, I believe there should be an expiration date for data center sales and use tax exemption. Those companies can afford to pay their fair share.
