@NiohBerg We need to stop trying to do this slowly to preserve the economy for the Iranian people after the regime falls and accelerate the fall of the regime and then rush economic stimulus into iran once the regime is over.

This war is an economic catastrophe for not just the regime, but also the country of Iran which the IRGC is dragging into the ground with them. Miad worked in the White House for almost two decades, including Trump's first administration. He is EXTREMELY sharp and knowledgable.
Miad Maleki@miadmaleki

1/10 The U.S. naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would cost Iran approximately $276M/day in lost exports and disrupt $159M/day in imports, a combined economic damage of ~$435M/day, or $13B/month. Over 90% of Iran's $109.7B in annual trade transits the Persian Gulf. Oil/gas accounts for 80% of government export earnings and 23.7% of GDP. Kharg Island alone generates ~$53B/year, or as I noted to @TIME, "$78 billion a year in energy revenue.

I've never seen so many far right nutjobs pointing at the New York Times uncritcally to say "I told you so" in my life. Its almost like their memory, skepticism, critical analysis skills are being completely overwhelmed by their addiction to conspiracies about Israel.

Everybody that knows anything about Israeli politics knows that the relationship between the people in the streets outside the ministers house and the government makes them a more serious threat to the minister than the missiles. This is a stunt, and it’s designed to feel people like you

Nah bruh! This is a bad look indeed. In the middle of sirens and incoming missiles, people banging on your gate begging for shelter, and you turn them away? As a public official and Education Minister, the expectation of leadership and basic humanity is higher. Optics matter in wartime. This will stick with people regardless of security excuses.

Not so much fun when the globalized intifada is pointed back at you huh Mr mayor? But see, Jews universally condemn this behavior, we think the kid is an idiot, and the group are terrorists, and we’ve been having discussions in our community for the past 2 years about how to try to prevent them from causing any real harm… including actively working with law enforcement. What has your community done about your terrorists? Oh yeah, cheered them on, promoted them, supported them, justified them. See… any community can have bad apples - but how thr community reacts tells you a whole lot more

A member of an offshoot of the Jewish Defense League — designated by the FBI as a "known violent extremist organization" — was allegedly building explosive devices to target the home of Nerdeen Kiswani in a chilling act of political violence. The defendant reportedly planned to flee to Israel following the attack. This comes amid an alarming rise in threats and violence across the country targeting Palestinian human rights advocates. I am thankful that the NYPD and FBI thwarted this plot, which could have endangered Nerdeen’s life and those of other New Yorkers. Let me be clear: We will not tolerate violent extremism in our city. No one should face violence for their political beliefs or their advocacy. I am relieved that Nerdeen is safe. Our city must meet hate with solidarity, and meet fear with an unshakable commitment to justice and to one another.

Oh my God. @TuckerCarlson is now claiming that Islamic terrorists engage in terrorism and are radicalized because of “colonialism”. Uh, pretty sure Mohammed was enslaving non-Muslims, massacring Jews and Christians, and raping kids long before colonialism ever existed. Tucker Carlson is literally justifying ISIS and Al Qaeda by blaming “colonialism”. He is a straight up Islamic jihadist sympathizer. Very dangerous. I won’t stop saying it: his son works in the White House and yes, I am bothered by that. I am very bothered by all of this.

There's an active shooter in a synagogue in Michigan. He has exchanged fire with security. These type of attacks are the worst thing anyone can do. It's deeply immoral, it goes counter to any principles of peace and safety, it's wildly counterproductive and it divides Americans.

The world is witnessing the most mentally-ill, inept, immature, and utterly incompetent presidential administration in American history. Trump’s circus of sociopaths appear to think wars and death are for their entertainment. The vast overwhelming majority of Americans disagree.

It says that there’s something very inhuman about being in a war in the age of disinformation and cognitive warfare, which is that the only way to discover reality is to begin with skepticism and be open to being proven wrong. The details of who did what are really quite irrelevant to the story, and whether or not we consider any loss of life a tragedy is irrelevant. You would not suddenly treat us as more human if you knew that we spent a hundred or more hours in the past few years watching the tragedy of Gaza and wishing that history had taken a different course. You would not see us in a different light if we led with the assumption that the story were entirely true and that we were heartbroken. This is not a question of the fallibility or even the humanity of Mr Landes, who is also able to fall victim to propaganda at times. The question is the method and intent of the media which, failed to provide any of the important context regarding the claims, or to wait until information was available to declaratively assign blame. If you’re trying to point out that even Mr Landes can be caught out by propaganda, bravo, you’ve done so… now show me that the you actually provided sufficient context in sufficiently unmanipulative language to shake off the underlying claim.

Mr. Landes, the claim you shared — that “Iran admitted its own IRGC mistakenly struck the school” — has been directly called “completely untrue” by BBC’s Shayan Sardarizadeh, one of the most respected disinformation reporters in the world. It originates from an unverified Telegram screenshot. No official IRGC statement, no forensic evidence, no independent confirmation. The photo used to support the “misfired IRGC missile” theory was geolocated over 1,000 km away from Minab. You shared debunked disinformation under a post mourning dead children. UNESCO has called this a grave violation of humanitarian law. The UN Secretary-General condemned it. Malala Yousafzai spoke out. The Washington Post, The New York Times, and Reuters all verified the destroyed school footage. Multiple international bodies are investigating. You are a historian. You built your career on accusing others of “lethal journalism.” You coined “Pallywood” to describe what you call media fabrication around dead civilians. And now, when 165 people — mostly girls aged 7 to 12 — lie dead in a verified, destroyed school, your first instinct was not grief. Not even a question. It was to share an unverified Telegram claim to redirect blame. No pause. No humanity. Just narrative management. A man who has spent decades demanding the world question media narratives did not spend a single moment questioning the narrative he wanted to believe. What does it say about a person whose reflex, when shown photos of dead children, is not sorrow — but strategy? 🙏 #MinabSchool #Iran #Minab #ProtectChildren #StopKillingChildren #WarCrimes #InternationalLaw #UNESCO #HumanRights #ChildrenUnderAttack #Disinformation #FactCheck #LethalJournalism #Hormozgan #CivilianCasualties #StopTheWar #ChildrenOfWar #SchoolsNotTargets #ProtectEducation #NoMoreWar

Pay careful attention to who tries to condemn the attacks on iran today and who tries to defend the Islamic regime… They are on the left, they are on the right. They are in the international bodies, they are in our own governments. They are in the media, in academia, and everywhere online. Pay careful attention and remember every one of them… They are your enemies. This is not a complicated conflict. This is not a conflict with a nuanced and disputed history where one might be forgiven for choosing the wrong side… This is as simple as “would you side with Hitler?” Anybody who is choosing yes, no matter their excuses, no matter what empty words they are spewing to justify their cowardice or their evil… are your enemies. You wont get another moment of simple moral clarity like this that will help you understand who is standing infront of you… take note, make lists, and never ever forget!

Fuck. The war has started. Israel has pushed us into this asinine war. Everything that goes wrong is on them. America had absolutely no interest in this war. 8 out of 10 Americans are against it. No matter who we vote for, we get Israel and war. This is going to end in disaster.

As the heroes of the American armed forces and the IAF fly over the skies of Iran striking the infrastructure of oppression of the Iranian regime, there’s 3 things to remember: 1. Israel is going to take the brunt of Irans retaliation for this, and yet they have joined the U.S. in the operation with no hesitation and according to the orders of the president of the United States. 2. The axis of authoritarianisms propaganda machines are going to be going into overdrives trying to simultaneously send messages undermining the legitimacy of the U.S. led joint operation, and to try to make it seem like the regime isn’t taking a beating - do not believe them 3. This is not a regime change war, nor is it a war against the Iranian people. We, the American people, and the Israeli people stand with the Iranian people at this moment of their liberation. May god protect the brave men and women of the United States armed forces and the IDF stationed and active in the region. The people of Israel, and most of all, the brave Iranian people whose moment of liberation has arrived. We in the family of free nations await your arrival with open hearts and open arms #helpishere #freeiran

Sometimes I am genuinely curious whether people are so blinded by hate they don’t see reality, or analyze the world through such historically inept lens that it is unfit for purpose. Netanyahu’s reframing of the war from a tragedy to triumph is what happens once history has played itself out. “History is written by the victors” is not a new concept, and the victorious don’t rewrite history to cover up failures, they do it to create a mythology for a civilization worth fighting for. This is, in many ways, the primary plot decide of Jewish history and certainly of the Torah. It’s not “the book of enslavement” it’s the book of exodus… we don’t celebrate the failures of Saul, we celebrate the triumph of David. The same idea was foundational in modern Zionism, the Masada myth is not an iconic Zionist myth because of the defeat of the Jews by the Romans, but by the fact that ultimately the Jews returned, and the Romans did not. In the modern state of Israel the first Arab-Israeli war was the war of independence… and Yom Hashoah canonizes the ultimate triumph over the plan to murder the Jews… Israel itself is juxtaposed with the Holocaust as triumph snatched from the jaws of annihilation (despite the historical inaccuracy) to create a mythological arc that reframes the ultimate victimization, as the ultimate liberation. This is how history is written, and it is how great civilizations ensure that they can maintain both their internal dignity and their external strength projection after encountering sometimes massive challenges. Horowitz has lost it entirely, he is incapable of seeing anything through any lens but his own blind hatred, and you following him down that primrose path will only make your contributions less productive.

I’m often blown away by the massive information gap between Israel and American Jewry. People who seem to follow all news related to Israel have no grasp of what is happening inside Israel. I hope they will read @davidhorovitz’s searing indictment of Netanyahu’s brazen attempt to rewrite the history of October 7. At a time when so many are justifiably focused on calling out antisemitism and antizionism, it is an insult to Israelis to ignore the destructive actions of their own so-called leaders. timesofisrael.com/beware-netanya…
