Today, I questioned Supreme Court Justices Elena Kagan and Amy Coney Barrett at a House Appropriations hearing about the exponential rise of “shadow docket” decisions.
These backdoor rulings let the Court make important decisions quickly, often without the full public process or explanation used in normal cases. The Supreme Court needs reform.

@brownmp Well, I live in techie land and they keep telling me that upgrades need to be done by early 2027 because AI is going to drive up prices on computers and phones way beyond their already crazy levels. Word to the wise...I'm upgrading my phone here soon since I qualify.

Crap. Just read the OnePlus, the brand of phone I've been using for like 7 years is leaving the US and Europe. Which means I'll have to get a different brand next time. But I love this brand. It always hit exactly what I wanted.

The subsequent Dune books are so bad that people forget that Dune itself is pretty badly constructed as a novel.

The reason this happens is that you can write a deeply flawed novel and have it sell millions upon millions of copies if the world-building is good enough (e.g., DUNE).

World building plays a surprisingly small role in the crafting of quality fantasy and science fiction. A lot of aspiring writers seem more interested in world building than creating a story worth reading.

@HansFiene Talk about a "little myth." The idea that SHE can pretend to be a HE. There's nothing "quaint" about it. SHE also could get the real help she needs rather than cosplaying her way through life.
