Today, Maryland will become the first state in the country to ban surveillance pricing in our supermarkets and grocery stores. We will also prohibit election methods that dilute the votes of protected classes and create a State Foster Youth Ombudsman. twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…

Gov. Wes Moore has ordered flags flown at half-staff in Maryland today in honor of the late, iconic civil rights leader Jesse Jackson.  Moore will also attend the Jackson funeral service on Friday at the House of Hope in Chicago. Saturday, in keeping with the issues of civil rights, Maryland's first Black Governor travels to Selma, Alabama, to keynote the Legal Defense Fund’s Annual Selma Jubilee in commemoration of the Bloody Sunday protests for Black Americans' right to vote. The annual event also reenacts the March 7, 1965, protests across the Edmund Pettus Bridge, in which Moore will participate. In 1965, the peaceful protests turned violent as those marching were attacked by police using billy club batons, water hoses, and attack dogs.

Governor Moore's Statement on Today's White House Business Meeting:
Governor Wes Moore@GovWesMoore

The National Governors Association exists to bring together the nation’s governors, Republicans and Democrats alike, to solve problems and move our states forward. I am proud to have been elected by my peers to serve as Vice Chair. There is nothing that I will not do and no partnership that I will not build if it means we can improve the lives of Marylanders. In fact, just a few weeks ago, I led a bipartisan group of governors to the White House to address energy costs and grid reliability – securing a cap on prices and saving families an additional $27 billion on their energy bills. A week ago, the president broke a decades-long, bipartisan tradition and inexplicably disinvited me from the dinner on Saturday night. I thank all of my Democratic colleagues for standing with me. I remain ready and willing to find common ground, produce results for the people of Maryland, and fight to ensure my fellow governors can do the same for the people they represent. I will attend today’s business meeting with my colleagues at the White House. But let me be abundantly clear: I will not participate in political stunts. Americans are exhausted by the division and toxicity out of Washington, and we all pray for better. In that spirit, I look forward to clearly laying out what Marylanders and Americans need and hope to find a White House committed to delivering just that.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D) spoke out for the first time about President Trump’s decision to exclude him from the upcoming National Governors Association event at the White House. "I do want to be clear to the president respectfully, you do not determine my worthiness," he said. CBS News’ @NorahODonnell asked Moore if he will attend the meeting, "if the point is the meeting is to turn into name-calling... I will not go." Watch "A Town Hall with Governor Wes Moore," brought to you by @BankofAmerica, this Sunday, Feb. 15, right after 60 Minutes, on CBS.

Happy Black History Month from the Free Beacon, where we question if Black people in 1920s South Carolina were *actually* terrorized by the KKK. Because it’s unbelievable that the Klan didn’t keep meticulous documentation on everyone they ran out of town, right?
Andrew Kerr@AndrewKerrNC

NEW: Maryland Gov. Wes Moore often tells the story of his great-grandfather's "exile" from South Carolina to Jamaica dead of night to escape a Ku Klux Klan lynching. Just one problem: the story is flatly contradicted by historical records. Here's what actually happened 👇 Moore's great-grandfather, the Rev. Josiah Johnson Thomas, preached at an Episcopal church in Pineville, SC, from 1922 through Dec. 1924, when he made an orderly and public transfer to Jamaica, his home country, to take over for a prominent Jamaican pastor who had unexpectedly died a week earlier. The Pineville church where Moore's great-grandfather preached had a stellar reputation within the local white community during his time there from 1922 through 1924, according to contemporary reporting. William Guerry, the Episcopal Bishop of SC (best known for his work to advance racial equality & who oversaw the ordination of Moore's great-grandfather) reported in 1924 the white community held the Pineville church in high regard for the work it performed for the black community. Guerry reported in 1925 the "colored work" at the Pineville church "is in a most prosperous condition." Guerry made no mention or suggestion in his reporting that the Pineville church or its pastors had any sort of conflict with the Ku Klux Klan, which operated openly in the 1920s but didn't have a chapter anywhere near Pineville during this timeframe. Moore's office declined to comment on this reporting when I first reached out to them over two weeks ago. Instead, they strongly insinuated I'm a racist for daring to question the story of his great-grandfather's escape from the Ku Klux Klan. Moore's fantastical tale of his great-grandfather's escape from the Ku Klux Klan to exile to Jamaica adds yet another asterisk to his remarkably inflated résumé, which is littered with lies about his place of birth, lies about his privileged upbringing, lies about his athletic achievements, lies about his academic achievements, and lies about his military achievements. All archival source documents are linked throughout the story & are available for your review. READ: freebeacon.com/democrats/wes-…

I’ve reached out to both @GovTimWalz and @SenAmyKlobuchar following the latest shooting involving federal agents in Minnesota. Marylanders have witnessed this cruelty in our own communities – during a school drop-off in Salisbury and in Glen Burnie on Christmas Eve. These are not isolated incidents. Again and again, we see that ICE lacks accountability and agents lack training for the operations they’re being sent on. This reckless pattern of violence carried out by the Department of Homeland Security is endangering our communities. Not protecting them. This must stop.
