Today was my first day back at work. Whilst it was a little bittersweet, I was beyond delighted to see that my wonderful @IoPPN_NREG colleagues had gotten my daughter the most incredible onesie 🧠

@Dr_DeanS obvs annoying to pay upfront but this should be covered by the study budget, esp if UK based? some trusts will also cover the poster printing costs

Why are conferences so expensive? Had a poster accepted but in order for it to count for a presentation I need to attend, so that's £200 for 1 day. Someone is making a tonne of cash but it's not those presenting.

Would genetics buffs agree (I literally just revised this and was very confused as I'm literal)... You get Angelman Syndrome *because* of mom.. But not *from* mom. The Chr15 is zoinked (accidentally methylayed/deletion) "from" implies she has a syndrome... But its de novo yes?

@doctor_dru_ enjoy working with children, prefer the rare stuff, fulfilled by good discussion not quick fixes, engaged in ethical debate, research-orientated, no nights/weekends, minimal practical skills, penchant for ivory towers -> clinical genetics (chose over paeds metabolic, no regrets)

@EISSEM I'm sure you could have. That's annoying, I believe the Brighton gum posts are very competitive so I doubt it's due to any deficit on your behalf. Good luck with any other applications though!

@rhysdore I think I absolutely could have done it but aomdone scored a bit higher at interview. Competitiveness for these jobs is now just insane. You'd think with a DTM&H and 4 months HIV experience I'd walk into an SHO job. Not so! But the feedback was very kind.

I have an interview (finally! Praise the lord) for an HIV/GUM Clinical Fellow job in Brighton 1. How do I prepare?! 2. Am I a non-UK candidate if I have settled status but not citizenship? 3. Can one discuss salary? "£37,068 - £57,570 Grade ST3-5 (cons said also suitable F3, F4)

@EISSEM I ran this clinic as an F2 a while ago, back then they clearly didn't expect much experience. Mixture of URTIs, social related concerns, and then more complex things who are either planned attendees or if not I'd typically check with the on call consultant who is just upstairs.

Band 9 for a PA? I thought PAs didn’t get pay progression and therefore needed to be paid £11000 more than doctors from the start. 🤔 This PA will earn more than consultant doctors who trained for 20+ years. @NHSE_WTE once again showing how little they value doctors

@pepemac27 @Dr_DeanS also in the latter and did it in ST1 and was very happy to have it out the way / allowed time to focus on other things as my specific interests became increasingly developed

@Dr_DeanS There are a number of approaches to this. Some will say "do it when you're ready to be a reg and not a minute before", some will advise to get it out of the way as soon as possible. I was in the latter and did it in the June of ST1, and don't regret it at all. 1/

Does anyone have any advice, when the best time to sit RCPCH Clinical exam? I'm in no real rush, mainly due to finances and experience but would be keen to have it under my belt, if possible, by the end of ST2. Or is it better done as ST3 with more experience?
