Filmed April 2024. Watched for the first time with a couple hundred people in Marfa a couple of weeks ago. Got pretty emotional watching it for a number of reasons. Had to ask Benny and Dave if I had said or done anything stupid in the film since I’d be watching it next to my wife for the first time. They assured me I’d be ok. 😅 Really proud to be a part of this and to the entire team that put it together. Love yall @redbeardnft @dave_krugman @riasuth @Vslav_eth @toadswiback and @glitchmarfa . Five years of hearing “you have to experience Art Blocks Marfa.” And now I finally get it. These few magical days in the desert were amongst my favorite of the whole year. How We Build is our effort to tell the real story of this magical world we are all building together- where art meets blockchain and a new movement is born. These are our stories. Seeing this come to life is an emotional moment. I remember @redbeardnft calling me about this idea as excited as I’ve ever heard him about anything and wanting to realize it with @dave_krugman. The energy was so infectious I wanted to be involved from the first minute. Sometimes our most fun and out there ideas get left on the cutting room floor. But sometimes we find the right people (@riasuth), places (Marfa, TX) and energy (@ArtOnBlockchain, @toadswiback) to make something we’re truly proud of. And here it is. This really is how we build. Wow.

Over the last few weeks I have travelled the globe spending quality time with the humans in our digital art community. One thing I noticed is that we all share the same struggles, worries, and concerns but we also feel the same passion, love and conviction. This new series we created shows the human side of our great ecosystem. Along with my friend and director of the series @dave_krugman, we want the world to see the storytellers building our community; not for the price of their art but for their spirit and essence. This pilot episode features Erick (@artonblockchain) Together we explore Erick’s love for art, his deep connection to Marfa and how he made it a home for his family and @artblocks_io Joined by friends @toadswiback and @glitchmarfa Thank you to @vslav_eth for helping produce this project. He is a true patron of the community and tremendous builder. And finally to our producer @riasuth, for being the glue that makes this magical thing possible. 2 years of calling you my wife. 9 years of calling you the love of my life. 12 years of calling you my best friend. Our story has been filled with so much passion & joy; each day we write the pages, new chapters unfold- through it we always have one another.

Marfa was my first time “out” & immersed back in the digital art community in person since Cece was born. Was a beautiful reminder that I am right where I belong, that I am more than just a dad, & that I’m ever bullish on the art movement which we are all spearheading. Blessed.

'How We Build' is a phrase that holds a lot of weight. It celebrates genuine effort, experimentation, risk taking and the constant testing of what's possible. Its an anthem, a call to action, a celebration of our collective potential- and now, it's also the title of our new series, co-hosted by @redbeardnft and myself, years in the making- a wild and winding docuseries about the individuals that define this space at the edge of the internet. Our first episode, fittingly, is with @ArtOnBlockchain, filmed on location in Marfa, Texas, and I am so grateful for the time he gave us, the wisdom he shared, and the friendships that have blossomed and strengthened over the years. With a guest appearance from @toadswiback during his @glitchmarfa residency, help from the @artblocks_io team, executive producer @Vslav_eth, production from @riasuth, @ALLSHIPS friends, and a list of many, many others- join us for our Premier at The Crowley Theater 8 PM this Thursday to be the first to watch with us. A very big, small (for now) life update - @mrsfunghibull and I are having a baby! Been feeling about every emotion possible since finding out but couldn’t be more excited & grateful to step into this new chapter with Meela and we’ve been itching to share the news for weeks So proud of how well she’s been weathering the first trimester and know she’s going to be the best mom ever. Feeling incredibly lucky to have her as a partner and grateful to have such a solid support system of family & friends both irl and online Will be taking some time off in the Fall to welcome this lil fella into the world but until then — any and all tips on a) how to be a good parent/survive while working in crypto and b) how to make generational wealth are sincerely appreciated lol, that phrase really hitting different these days - Lots of love from me + Meela 🤍

Unraveled. What a fitting word for the way I feel at this point in @SamSpratt's Masquerade on @niftygateway. I love and admire what Sam and @MrsRachelSpratt have built for us, with us, and I'd like to share why. I'm fortunate enough to call these two dear friends, and I've seen the care and effort, the blood, sweat, tears, the herculean effort these two have put into the ideation and development of these concepts, alongside their incredible team. For every public moment, there are countless private ones- the bricklaying, the building, the problem solving, the deep struggle of an artist making their wildest dreams real. I want to start by acknowledging what an effort it is, and how seamless it can look from the outside. I am deeply impressed. Sam understands that where blockchain meets art is fertile ground for new forms, and is playing out a masterclass in what I love calling social sculpting. This isn't just JPGs backed by blockchain- this is a participatory art project where the artist has created a system of collective creation- and invited the world to add their own strokes. Its deeper than that still- for even the invitations are an art form, of gifting, of care, of reflection- an opportunity to reflect on our own efforts and connection to others here, the drops that ripple outwards in our lives and echo back from distant shores. This 'Digital Varnish' as he has put it, isn't a simple chemical fixer, but a swirling overlay of vulnerability- of love, of life, of humor, games, play- of hundreds of people howling into this masterpiece and claiming a bit of it as their own. The piece as a work of art is stunning in its own right, but it's the map of relationships and humanness that embeds it in a different realm all together. I know I put my own heart and soul into what I wrote- as did so many others. I chose to gift my Player Mask slot to @riasuth, who is another person who is a binding force in this community, at large, and on a personal note- for my own projects and for @ALLSHIPS. I met Maria ten years ago while working at @BBDO New York in my advertising days- as a whip smart and unreasonably effective producer- and she's been a keystone in every single one of my efforts since. I can't imagine a more deserving set of hands to hold the space the mask has carved for her. Maria, thank you. If you haven't sat with the Masquerade, and poured over the songs, the confessions, the poems, the lore, the outpouring- please do. If you think this isn't special, think again, and really look, look outward, look inward, look at the effect this mechanism has evoked. Thank you to @Kanbas_ for his patronage of an artist who is cutting through thick jungle, blazing a path that others can follow, and use to forge their own winding way through this dark forest. I know I am already inspired to take my own world building even further, having experienced what is possible when you go all in. To the @niftygateway team, the execution of this vision was flawless and I am so impressed by your work on the technical side. I am honored to be building DRIVE with you and your team and this deepens that honor greatly. Thank you for pivoting to depth, to story, to massive efforts to elevate big ideas. I am honored to sit on the Council of Luci and to have the shared responsibility of going even deeper into this artwork. I can't wait to hear how others contributed, I can't wait to turn over every stone and see what was left for us all to read.
