We do need a better way of transitioning people off of welfare once they start to come up in life. The way it’s set up now, if you’re busting your butt, but you need help, you won’t get it. But if you’re doing nothing, you get all the help and resources forever. This needs to change.

🚨 🚨 🚨 IMPORTANT DOG INFORMATION 🚨—A friend of mine on here @hollyfurneaux75 lost two of her sweet shepherd dogs in the last week due to acute toxicity from Ivermectin because they unknowingly have a gene mutation called the MDR1 gene. She gave them regular ivermectin to treat them for worms. She wants to spread awareness to other dog owners so they don’t go through what she just went through. The MDR1 gene is a gene that makes dogs bodies unable to process some medications and they quickly build up toxicity and can die from it. Even small doses of it. It is often called MDR1 drug sensitivity or multidrug resistance mutation. Common drugs that can be very dangerous for dogs with the mutation include- Antiparasitics like ivermectin, Some antidiarrheals, and Certain pain meds, sedatives, & antibiotics. The MDR1 gene is very common in certain dog breeds, particularly collies (up to ~70% affected), Australian Shepherds (~50%), Shetland Sheepdogs, Border Collies, and other herding breeds (or mixes). It can also appear in some cats at lower rates. Vets use the phrase “white feet don’t treat” when considering treating these types of dogs and cats with certain medications because many of these dogs who have white feet carry the gene. Please pass this along so owners of these types of dogs are made aware that this is a very real thing that can happen to their dogs and they should not be trying to treat their dogs for anything without their vets advice so this won’t happen to their dogs.
