The extreme pessimism around India is not because people suddenly think the country will stop growing. India will probably still grow faster than most large economies as far as headline GDP numbers are concerned. The pessimism is because the old IT services export moat is starting to look much weaker than the GDP number suggests. The old IT arbitrage made sense in a world where a US company could hire in Bangalore at a fraction of American cost and get acceptable enough output, even if not perfectly up to western standards. But once a senior American developer can run Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and a cluster of agents, the entire model of having a 50-man lala sweatshop in Bangalore or Gurgaon starts looking increasingly untenable. And the sattvic boomers in power, whose favourite pastimes are love jihad press conferences, Nationalist AI that recites Sanskrit shlokas, declaring eggs in mid-day meals haram and "sab changa si" press releases, are not exactly the decision makers you would trust to respond to this with seriousness. They are still mentally stuck in 1990s India, while the US and China are preparing for the AGI age.

A low P/E in a stagnant industry may be a value trap, while a high P/E in a rapidly growing sector may represent a sound investment. AI was supposed to cause rapid growth in the sector but the opposite happened, it stagnated so low P/E
