@nrthchg @CultureCrave If there’s one lesson Hollywood should learn from the past decade, it’s that they should take the opinion of Star Wars fans more seriously
English

@CultureCrave This is the problem with creators today. Take an established IP and make it their own, you know what come up with your own shit and do that. Leave the IP alone and make what the fans want. Star Wars is dying for this very reason.

Zach Cregger on his 'Resident Evil' movie 🧟♂️
"I wanted this movie to tell the story of what would happen if some idiot like me were dropped into the world of a Resident Evil game. So Austin plays not some badass with combat experience like Leon but just an average dude. That makes his experience of moving through this hellscape way more interesting to me than somebody who’s psychologically equipped"
"A pistol [is] the first weapon he acquires in the movie. Just like in the games, as he progresses through the world he’ll get better weapons. It’s such a fun moment when you’re playing RE and you finally get the shotgun or the machine gun and I wanted that sense of progression to be in the movie"
"Resident Evil is of course a franchise that’s got a ton of zombies but it’s also got all sorts of weirder monstrosities. Really wanted to make sure that we never got a handle on what kind of dangers we’d find. It’s not just a zombie movie. The T-Virus can have a lot of different effects and I wanted to make sure we had a variety of adversaries"
"The slow discovery of horrific elements is something I really love about Resident Evil. It’s not a run and gun action game. It’s about tension and atmosphere and so I really wanted to lean into that. As much as there’s plenty of action in the movie it’s equally important to honor the dread. That moment when you look down a dark passage and you know something awful is waiting in that darkness for you. You don’t want to go forwards but you can’t go back. That’s the sweet spot"

@autodoodlebot @smushingmachine @kittischmitti @Xeno_Martin @lachtak @Tommy_Reviews Man this is easily the most productive and engaging conversation I’ve had about this all day lmao. #followed
My brain’s itch to rant about movies is scratched, thanks for freeing me from the Twitter vortex
English

@ribcageteeth @smushingmachine @kittischmitti @Xeno_Martin @lachtak @Tommy_Reviews Yeah, I just try to remember that these are folks too, and maybe they're overreacting on X but a lot of them are still decent irl and maybe they're just stressed out or something and maybe trying to think of good reasons for a change in setting will engage the brain better.

Doing a new Raccoon City Outbreak storyline that runs parallel to the games is a million times better than a straight adaptation idk why so many people are opposed to it
DiscussingFilm@DiscussingFilm
First details on Zach Cregger's ‘RESIDENT EVIL’: • Takes place in Raccoon City during the events of the ‘Resident Evil 2’ game • Filmed to be from POV of a normal guy including - first-person shooter action + wide lens shots over his shoulder • Many easter eggs for the games including weapon progression & creature mechanics
English

@autodoodlebot @smushingmachine @kittischmitti @Xeno_Martin @lachtak @Tommy_Reviews Yknow what, I respect that a lot. I get trapped in the discourse machine sometimes bc I’m a film nerd so I had a lot to say about this haha. but you’re right, if I was more of a devout fan I might be less open to loose adaptations especially after so many bad ones.
English

@ChubbBeary @gristwatch @SerPalazzo @komradekhris real quick: idk how many horror movies you watch, but that trailer shows far from a generic one. The camera movement, the lighting, the music, plus Zach’s previous work are not generic. They’re highly competent and very tightly produced films. So not too much on the Cregger
English

@gristwatch @SerPalazzo @ribcageteeth @komradekhris Again, dont make a movie based on the events of re2 if re2 has nothing to do with it. If you want to make a generic horror movie go ahead. But leave the RE ip out of it.
English

Crying laughing at the fact that there are thousands of people in the world who cannot wrap their brain around the idea of an adaptation shifting the timeline forward
detective grayson 🕷️🦇@luthorsilver
lmao that's a whole iphone
English

@ChubbBeary @gristwatch @komradekhris “It’s irrelevant why, what matters is that they do.” This is the core of the disagreement for me. In the game, yes, it takes place in 1998. But the movie isn’t in the same chronology as the game. It’s the same events in a different year, which doesn’t impact the horror at all.
English

@ribcageteeth @gristwatch @komradekhris Then write a movie without racoon city and dont say your movie takes place during RE2 events.
Those events took place during 1998. Its irrelevant why, what matters is that they do.
He just made a generic horror movie and slapped the RE ip on it.
English

@ChubbBeary @gristwatch @komradekhris RE2 Came out in 1998, so it was set in 1998. The movie comes out in 2026, so it's presumably set in 2026. The issue is that the movie is BASED ON the game, not literally canon to the game.
English

@gristwatch @ribcageteeth @komradekhris Because there are no fucking smartphones in the year 1998. Are you even at least little familiar with the universe this movie is supposed to play in?
English

@TheWarlockGamma @BiggerCheese420 @sman_mmo @ArcherSys @DiscussingFilm Those are older statments made during production and it looks like he chose to deviate and focus more on a spiritual adaptation which is better
English

@ribcageteeth @BiggerCheese420 @sman_mmo @ArcherSys @DiscussingFilm Cregger has already said that his movie is canon with the games

@autodoodlebot @smushingmachine @kittischmitti @Xeno_Martin @lachtak @Tommy_Reviews I think i get your point now and I think we basically agree. My issue is that the change kinda justifies itself by way of the movie being explicitly a self-contained story based on the events of re2. And I simply do think fanatics should chill bc the reaction has been overblown
English

@ribcageteeth @smushingmachine @kittischmitti @Xeno_Martin @lachtak @Tommy_Reviews Maybe the director has a cool idea that needs the snow. There are bodies of water near raccoon city, maybe he has an idea for that. I think it's much better to engage with why he would make that change than say it doesn't matter and people should stop caring.
English

@autodoodlebot @smushingmachine @kittischmitti @Xeno_Martin @lachtak @Tommy_Reviews I guess I’m not that commited to the resident evil video games but I still like them a lot. RE7 is one of my favorite games ever. I’m just not as much of a fanatic as you and that’s not a bad thing or an insult. The movie is just literally a different take, Cregger has said this
English

@ribcageteeth @smushingmachine @kittischmitti @Xeno_Martin @lachtak @Tommy_Reviews I feel like watering down the term only helps people who aren't that commited grab legitimacy from people with more investment with the material. If we want to look at it as a different take on the events, I think that's fine. Maybe this outbreak is in the winter.
English

@RuggedTheDragon I’ll tell you who doesn’t know: the vast majority of people who are gonna go see this movie. It doesn’t matter, they’re different stories in different mediums that surround similar events. It’s not like the MCU they’re not actually in the same “universe” and that’s ok, good even
English

@ribcageteeth Who doesn't know that the city was destroyed in October. You can't have a city still standing during the winter when it was destroyed before that.
