The Smith and Carney governments are asking taxpayers to finance two enormous commitments: Billions for Pathways carbon capture, with no market premium for the oil. And approximately $40 billion in new spending obligations connected to a Pacific pipeline. Together, these commitments leave taxpayers carrying tens of billions in new debt. Governments should be reducing the cost of living—not adding debt, subsidies and inflationary spending.
