It’s more nuanced than what Fox states, and Trump’s team is not doing themselves any favors with their current talking points as they are also misrepresenting the facts. Fox should be providing the complete picture. We are not isolated from price changes of the global commodity even though we are the world’s largest producer of light sweet crude and petroleum products. The last refinery we built was in 1977, almost 50 years ago, due to regulatory and political risk to investing the billions of dollars required to build a refinery. These existing refineries require heavy sour crude (which we import) to function and produce petroleum products, or a blend of heavy sour and light sweet. Hence we are impacted by the price changes.
