I think any decisions about a coaching change in Vancouver with the Canucks will depend on the draft lottery. If the Canucks pick third, bringing Caleb Malhotra into the picture, it rules out his dad as his coach IMO.

So, Patrik Allvin was “GM” in name only, Jim Rutherford drove the bus on nearly any consequential transaction, and he ran over Allvin today on the way out … then backed over him again. Just to be sure. I’d say it always ends bloody in Vancouver. But that’s devoid of leadership.

@irfgaffar Assuming Rutherford wants to stay, wonder if they would move him into Aqualini Group and concentrate on the practise facility and other side projects? Would free up postions to bring in another experienced hockey executive to oversee the hockey ops department.

Plenty of talk about the future of many people in the Canucks organization over last little while. Zero decisions have been made yet. Whatever choices are made are not only in mind of next 4-5 years, but you have to set up the foundation for next 10-15, and ownership knows that.

@jtbourne As a Canuck fan who feels the team is better with the assets they got for Hughes today and long term, I'd be looking to trade him whether he wants to stay or not.

Speculating, but feels to me like Matthews heads into next season in a similar spot to Quinn Hughes last year. "I'm in if we're good, I'm in if there's a direction, if, if, if." We can't know what a new GM will do, but seems like you can sell him on a plan if you've got one.

My reaction to this story is that it’s fundamentally about the “bad shit” (a technical hockey term) that happens when bad moves and bad process pile up to the point that trust between the suits and the hockey people break down in an organization.
