Rewatched Asteroid City. This one has really moved high in my nebulous Wes rankings. The whole run of “I still don’t understand the play” to the cut scene scene is honestly breathtaking to me. How did he do that

(If anything I hope yall learned no one cares what you think is good or not. Tell us what you like and why. That’s inarguable and more engaging than you acting like Roger Ebert after only seeing four movies this year.)

Sinners and One Battle After Another were always going to be a hard choice between each other. both are incredible era-defining films and we're lucky to have gotten both of them in the same year. what an incredible year for cinema.

My only real Oscars thought is that I think Benicio Del Toro in OBAA is probably my favorite performance of last year and one of the best of this century. Just completely rewires the tone of the film to his own frequency in a way I've seen so little of before. It's really special

In the last few years, one of the things that has kept me hopeful about the future of movies, without fail, is hearing Ryan Coogler talk. If he wants to be, he more than deserves to be the heir to Spielberg — de facto president of Hollywood
david ehrlich@davidehrlich

it's no secret Ryan Coogler is an incredible filmmaker, but — as anyone lucky enough to work in or even NEAR the movies these days could probably tell you — he's also just an incredible human being. sincerely thrilled for all of his success. rare the Oscars make me feel that way.

I know this comes as a big surprise to Americans, but you are not supposed to be able to solve every problem by adjusting monetary policy. You are supposed to have state capacity, nimble bureaucracies, and talented societal elites, then take tangible actions to solve problems.
Michael A. Gayed, CFA@leadlagreport

The Fed can't cut because of oil. Can't hike because of jobs. Can't do nothing because the curve is screaming. Monetary policy was built for one crisis at a time. This is three.
