We're aware of a video circulating on social media involving one of our Canine Unit members and his Police Service Dog (PSD). We are reviewing this incident and will release additional context tomorrow regarding the high-risk call this officer was on & what led to this incident.

@TaraSuzz @SJVEEN @CalgaryPolice Yup out of line- watch the video. Did not kick with his toes- not to mention they don’t wear steal toed boots. Out of context and social media being what it is brings out all the arm chair critics that truly just want to vent about everything.

@shut_up_mary @frizzybob @CalgaryPolice Untrue- both the officer and the police dog are well trained and a team. Nothing was out of line- truly a social media blow up over nothing.

@shut_up_mary @frizzybob @CalgaryPolice Trouble with social media- out of context- Police dogs are a specialized animal. He did not aggressively kick the dog- your voice has been heard but for you try try and stop mine is not right. Wait for the true perspective, not a short out of contest video.

For people to say what has been said with only a 6 second clip is just silly- it’s social media that is flawed.

@jmgroot @SJVEEN @CalgaryPolice Untrue not a kick or forceful- a correct use social media properly not to spread untruths. Watch the video you can tell it was a correction. Words like disgusting are just that disgusting.

Don’t get me wrong I have no use for animal abuse but I know this was not and that’s why I will stand by my comments.This will be investigated don’t worry.

@Bigbot96 @starvingbuddah @CalgaryPolice Thankyou for listening-hopefully you have learned to not over react and gain all the evidence before judging a 6 second clip that was cut front and back was done for effect. But then again you probably didn’t even watch the video clip.

@flywithnicolina @starvingbuddah @CalgaryPolice Nope respect the training and the job the anime officer and his handler do. I also never judge anything without the full story or evidence. A 6 second clip is not evidence and what it does show is a correction not a kick as many people seem to thing.

@starvingbuddah @BonaFideAudrey @CalgaryPolice If your dog tore its ACL- I’m thinking there may have been some sort of abuse involved. But without a 6 second video we’ll never know.

@BonaFideAudrey @rjlr1960 @CalgaryPolice Also, didn’t cause injury. Did it cause pain??? My dog tore her ACL and never made a noise or whimpered. I guess she never felt any pain. Educate yourself and get over your god like complex

@flywithnicolina @SJVEEN @CalgaryPolice You are right that’s why he didn’t kick the dog- watch the video. Again all out of context- social media at its best. Notice they didn’t post the entire video because it would not have gotten this reaction.

@SJVEEN @rjlr1960 @CalgaryPolice No context. There’s different ways of diverting attention to a trained dog, and kicking isn’t one of them!

@starvingbuddah @Bigbot96 @CalgaryPolice You just answered your own question.These are amazingly well trained police dogs trained like they are all over the world. They are not family pets-they serve in critical situations where reaction makes a difference. Family pets yes treat awaythey will sit,heal, down do tricks.

@rjlr1960 @Bigbot96 @CalgaryPolice My dog was my friend. She would follow commands because she would get a treat. How would that be any different from a police dog? When it does its job well or follows a VOCAL command it gets a treat. No need to physically abuse them even in training.
