McFall v Shimp, 1978. Court refused to compel a man to donate bone marrow to his dying cousin on bodily autonomy grounds. The cousin died. Also: withdrawal of life support is legal everywhere and explicitly grounded in bodily autonomy. So yes, multiple examples.

@pinkheretic Obviously I am asking for examples outside of abortion since this is the topic of our discussion... So can you point to a single example?

@AndyMasley The total US annual ethanol production represents ~ 1.3 × 10¹⁸ joules of energy. To store that you need something on the order of a 400,000Gwh battery. That’s like 600x the total amount of grid storage globally.

My contribution to the solar/farm discourse is that solar panels capture about 100x as much usable energy from the sun as corn grown for ethanol, if you include the energy cost of growing corn. Ethanol corn is 40% of all US corn and is literally just there to capture energy from the sun. We have a way of doing that much more efficiently now!

has anybody ever actually bothered to even try to explain what is allegedly so superior about milk that has not been heated to 161°F for 15 seconds prior to distribution?

DiamondBack Energy, one of the top US shale companies, says it will bring "incremental barrels to the market inmediately." US shale can not offset the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, but the idea that companies wouldn't react to >$80 a barrel was wrong.

The IRGC will force their own children to clear minefields by running through them. All because they don’t want to lose a tank. (They already did this) That is the evil no one in the West wants to call out. IRGC are the modern version of the SS in Nazi Germany. The solution to the evil of the IRGC is full-on regime change. But that’s up to empowering the Iranian people and weakening the IRGC. Whether that happens … who knows.

2 things can be true. - the Biden Administration blocked a JetBlue/Spirit merger out of market consolidation concerns & now here we are with one company gone. - the final blow that caused Spirit to fall was skyrocketing jet fuel prices caused by the war in Iran.

Sure. But President Trump takes the cake. Joe Biden has been parodied on Saturday Night Live far less often than Donald Trump. Based on episode-by-episode parody lists: Biden has appeared in roughly 53 SNL episodes as a parody character since 1991. Trump has appeared in well over 100 parody appearances/episodes since 1988. Alec Baldwin alone played Trump in 46 recurring appearances, not counting Darrell Hammond, James Austin Johnson, Phil Hartman, Shane Gillis, and others. So, in practical terms, Trump has been parodied on SNL about 2–3 times more often than Biden, and probably more depending on how individual sketches are counted. Trump has also dominated SNL political cold opens for much of the last decade.

I’m still waiting for the day when I can walk into a voting booth in Texas and genuinely believe in a candidate, someone whose words I respect and whose values I can stand behind, without feeling like I’m just picking the lesser of two evils. But if I’m being honest, that day feels far off, maybe even beyond my lifetime.

@123MathMan @JavierBlas If you think exporting our refined products is winning this, you don't understand what is going to happen to gas and diesel prices as refiners export to countries that are willing to pay a lot more for it than $5/gal.

@JavierBlas So far, it certainly appears Trump is playing this to the benefit of the US. Maybe the end state doesn’t reflect that. Or maybe it will. But daddy Trump is winning as I type this. His detractors are the ones in brutal trouble. Especially EU capping wells, dynamiting nuclear, etc

The world is calling on the barrel of last resort — and it’s brutal for the US. American total petroleum exports (crude and refined products) surged last week to an all-time high >14m b/d. The price? US total inventories plunged at ~3.5 million b/d last week. Unsustainable.
