Her husband has been missing since October 2023, leaving her to manage the household and care for the family alone. Their original home was completely destroyed, reduced to rubble, forcing multiple displacements: first from Khan Younis amid heavy shelling, then to Rafah, and now to a makeshift tent without electricity, clean water, or sufficient food. To escape the extreme daytime heat, they sometimes stay in a friend's house rent-free. The family suffers from fungal skin infections due to poor living conditions, and Reem often wakes to the children's cries of hunger, able to offer only dry bread scraps or contaminated water when supplies run low. She witnessed the deaths of her sister and her sister's children and was unable to bury them properly. With no income or stable means of support, the family struggles daily to meet basic needs, manage ongoing medical issues, and cope with repeated displacement and profound losses.

The house was directly struck by a bomb while the family was inside; fortunately, all members survived after being extracted from the rubble, though they sustained various injuries, and the building is now half-destroyed, with missing walls and no adequate protection from the elements. The family has improvised shelter using tarps and has endured displacement more than five times due to widespread destruction in their neighborhood. Living together are Nesreen's two married daughters and their three children, her two married sons each accompanied by newborn twins, and her elderly mother, who has metal plates in her knees from prior war-related injuries and requires consistent medical attention and nutritious meals. Nesreen manages high blood pressure and diabetes, both of which need ongoing treatment. With no source of income, no regular food assistance, and no functioning community kitchens, the 14 family members depend entirely on sporadic donations to cover essentials amid exorbitantly high prices, leading to widespread malnutrition and constant challenges in securing enough food, clean water, and basic supplies. The family primarily queues for water, a task that occupies 9-year-old Eileen daily instead of allowing her to attend school or play. They urgently require secure shelter against cold and rain, medications for Nesreen and her mother, sufficient food for the entire household including the infants and young children, reliable access to clean water, and assistance to help the children resume their education.
