“I brought my wife here and was told she urgently needed blood. But when I tried to get some, I was informed there was none available. We were then asked to find a donor to replace it, so I decided to donate myself.
Right now, I’m waiting for the results to know if I’m a match.”
A patient at the Mother and Child Hospital recounts his experience.

This is my swollen ankle - started this weekend and needed crutches to do my ward round. Glad to have made it to Milan, but I’m now paying the price! PS what’s my diagnosis? 😂
My former boss was in Washington, D.C., recently for a conference and reached out…
I drove 40 mins to meet him…
I couldn't miss the opportunity.
→ Dr. Anime-Boamah is one of Ghana's finest healthcare leaders with multiple national recognitions, including the overall best Medical Doctor in Ghana 🇬🇭.
→ He is also a well-respected obstetrician-gynecologist.
→ He is the former CEO of the ultramodern University of Ghana Medical Center (Google it, you will be amazed).
→ Before this, he was the Medical Director of Eastern Regional Hospital, where I had my 2 years of housemanship training.
→ He has been a great resource & mentor since I completed medical school.
——————-
I have so many stories about that time…
→ During my rotation in the obstetrics and gynecology department, he was the head of the department.
→ He trained & taught us some of the most complex surgeries you can think of.
→ Within a month, I was comfortably performing common obstetric and gynecological surgeries unsupervised.
→ He would often tell me to go to the theater and help out.
→ This was how much he believed in my surgical skills and judgment.
→ But sometimes he would also caution me to slow down 😄.
➤ I remember one time, he asked me to go and start a case (C/S) in the theatre.
The idea was for him to join me later.
By the time he got to the theatre, the nurses were already moving the patient out 🫢.
He spent about 30 minutes that day advising me that speed is not a desired outcome in surgery.
I was young and enthusiastic 😅.
The patient had no complications after surgery, but I slowed down after that day.
→ By the end of my 6-month rotation in the department, I had performed over 60 procedures (minor + major).
In contrast, some of my colleagues who stayed in the major cities will probably perform 0.
————————
→ He was so sure I would be a fantastic obstetrician-gynecologist, as did most of the hospital staff.
→ So, he was SHOCKED when I reached out to him in 2018 and told him I needed a recommendation letter for my application for MPH & MBA.
My time in the military and exposure to the UN in the Ivory Coast and Northern Mali changed my mind.
→ Nonetheless, he wrote me a powerful recommendation letter that helped me secure admission to #Harvard, #Hopkins, #Emory, #Yale, and others

Friend says she’s had a runny nose since she fell off her bike.
Yellow watery discharge, otherwise feels fine.
No headache, no fever.
Just a simple cold… or something to worry about?
