I thought it might be a laugh to appoint Cabinet Ministers who are experts in their fields, capable and experienced, in a radical break from the recent tradition of having a Cabinet made up of incompetent fuckwits and cronies.

I disagree having met many, my view is most are not. Many could have much easier lives out of politics and many could earn far higher salaries. Some I suspect are in it for power and influence, some love the political game, many genuinely want to improve things.
Steeley@djsteeley

@MartinSLewis @xzllkx Most politicians are in it for salary/expenses and easy jobs for their family members. Politicians should be working to make our lives better, not their own!

Please report "sorry we are experiencing unusually high call volumes" messages. We've had 20,000 reports in so far to test if some firms (banks, broadband, mobile, energy, water etc) have this for EVERY call. Pls take 30s to report it via moneysavingexpert.com/report-high-ca… We need to keep track over a few more weeks to nail down the patterns.

The scaling back and scrapping of HS2 is one of the biggest symbols of failure in this country. But especially this - failing to have a direct connection between Manchester and Paris for want of a short tunnel in London. Brunel would’ve constructed this in a weekend as a side gig

New. Please report "sorry we are experiencing unusually high call volumes" messages. I want to test if some firms have this for EVERY call. Schools function on a lot of ‘good will’ from staff. Offering to do things like staying late, organising things last minute, going on trips. When staff are exhausted or start putting boundaries in place because they’re burning out it’s quite a shock for some people.

I know so many men who have spoken to me about baby loss only after I’ve spoken to them about mine. So many suffering in silence, supporting in any way they can but neglecting their own need for support. We have to break that silence.

@MiscarriageA And if you’re going through it, try to talk about it. Talk to your partner, your family, your mates. Talk to a professional if you need to and are lucky enough to be able to. And if you’ve got a mate going through it, ask how they’re doing. Be there for each other.

It became incredibly difficult to be around pregnancy or young babies, especially siblings with a small age gap. There’s a Baader-Meinhof thing that happens, where you realise pregnancy and baby loss has always been in every book and film and TV show going.

Agreed. Every school I visit has said that since COVID, behaviour has deteriorated. The only way to tackle this is by focussing on the taught Behaviour Curriculum- the social habits of navigating social spaces- clear boundaries, and predictable consequences. With targeted support where necessary. Disruptive behaviour in English schools worse since Covid, says outgoing Ofsted head theguardian.com/education/2023…
