most people building AI agents obsess over how they WRITE memories. turns out that's basically irrelevant. new research analyzed 9 different memory systems across 1,540 questions. the finding? - retrieval method drives 20-point accuracy swings. - write strategy? 3–8 points max. raw conversation chunks (zero LLM calls, $0 cost) matched or beat fancy fact extraction and summarization. the expensive preprocessing everyone's doing? it's throwing away context the AI could've used. here's what actually matters: - hybrid retrieval (semantic + keyword + reranking) cut failures in half. - when you give the model relevant context, it uses it correctly 79% of the time. the problem isn't reasoning. it's surfacing the right memories. - correlation between retrieval quality and accuracy: r=0.98. everyone's optimizing the wrong part of the pipeline. stop spending tokens on write-time compression. fix your retrieval instead.

🎯 After years of building with Node.js, I've organized my hard-won knowledge into skills: a collection of best practices, workflows, and deep expertise my AI assistant uses to write code to my standard. No more repeating myself on every code review. 👇

Most people treat CLAUDE.md like a prompt file. That’s the mistake. If you want Claude Code to feel like a senior engineer living inside your repo, your project needs structure. Claude needs 4 things at all times: • the why → what the system does • the map → where things live • the rules → what’s allowed / not allowed • the workflows → how work gets done I call this: The Anatomy of a Claude Code Project 👇 ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 1️⃣ CLAUDE.md = Repo Memory (keep it short) This is the north star file. Not a knowledge dump. Just: • Purpose (WHY) • Repo map (WHAT) • Rules + commands (HOW) If it gets too long, the model starts missing important context. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 2️⃣ .claude/skills/ = Reusable Expert Modes Stop rewriting instructions. Turn common workflows into skills: • code review checklist • refactor playbook • release procedure • debugging flow Result: Consistency across sessions and teammates. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 3️⃣ .claude/hooks/ = Guardrails Models forget. Hooks don’t. Use them for things that must be deterministic: • run formatter after edits • run tests on core changes • block unsafe directories (auth, billing, migrations) ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 4️⃣ docs/ = Progressive Context Don’t bloat prompts. Claude just needs to know where truth lives: • architecture overview • ADRs (engineering decisions) • operational runbooks ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 5️⃣ Local CLAUDE.md for risky modules Put small files near sharp edges: src/auth/CLAUDE.md src/persistence/CLAUDE.md infra/CLAUDE.md Now Claude sees the gotchas exactly when it works there. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Prompting is temporary. Structure is permanent. When your repo is organized this way, Claude stops behaving like a chatbot… …and starts acting like a project-native engineer.

Holy shit 🤯 You can drop a CLAUDE.md file into your repo and Claude Code suddenly becomes 10x better. This is based on Anthropic's internal workflow shared by Boris Cherny (creator of Claude Code). Someone turned it into a plug-and-play CLAUDE.md. Just copy it into your project. Here’s what it unlocks: 1️⃣ Plan before coding Claude automatically enters planning mode for complex tasks instead of jumping straight into code. 2️⃣ Sub-agents for complex work Large tasks get delegated to sub-agents, keeping the main context clean. 3️⃣ Self-improving AI Every time you correct Claude, it writes a rule so it never repeats the mistake. 4️⃣ Built-in verification Claude proves the code works before finishing a task. No blind commits. 5️⃣ Autonomous bug fixing Give it a bug and it can trace → debug → fix → verify end-to-end. The crazy part is the compounding effect: Week 1 → You correct Claude often Month 1 → It starts shipping what you want Month 3 → It behaves like a dev who has worked on the project for a year One small file. Massive productivity boost. If you use Claude Code, you should probably try this.

Pay attention to this one if you are building terminal-based coding agents. OpenDev is an 81-page paper covering scaffolding, harness design, context engineering, and hard-won lessons from building CLI coding agents. It introduces a compound AI system architecture with workload-specialized model routing, a dual-agent architecture separating planning from execution, lazy tool discovery, and adaptive context compaction. The industry is shifting from IDE plugins to terminal-native agents. Claude Code, Codex CLI, and others have proven the model works. This paper formalizes the design patterns that make these systems reliable, covering topics like event-driven system reminders to counteract instruction fade-out, automated memory across sessions, and strict safety controls for autonomous operation. 🚨 BREAKING: An Anthropic hackathon winner just gave away the entire system for free. @affaanmustafa beat 100+ participants at the Anthropic x Forum Ventures hackathon. Built zenith.chat in 8 hours using Claude Code. Walked away with $15K in API credits. Then he packaged 10+ months of daily Claude Code refinement into one repo: → 14+ agents, 56+ skills, 33+ commands → MCP configs, hooks, rules → AgentShield security scanner → Continuous learning system → Full cross-platform support 35,000+ stars. MIT licensed. One install command.

I would love to make a course on AST manipulation, but I don't think anyone would buy it. It's such a superpower to have in your back pocket when you're making updates to large amounts of code.

You can use a combination of generics, keyof and an 'as' assertion to build a type-safe version of Object.keys. It's a lovely way to get acquainted with the power of generics. (Apologies for the silent movie style, I'm away for Christmas)

I get so sick of people saying "nobody would hire you to build a house without an estimate." Even if house-building projects met the estimate (more often than not, they don't), there are literally no parallels. 1/4

@Cennydavidsson @alannac111 @allenholub Oh I’ve had great success without estimates however it’s a rare company that doesn’t want them. Would you let someone build you a house without estimates?

What do I put in this awkward corner to make it look cool on screencasts? Abstract answers like "plant" or "lamp" are not accepted as my interior design skills are zero 🤡 Links/pictures of actual specific things I can buy only please 😅
