Absolutely bonkers to have an ITALIAN Pied Flycatcher breeding in one of the boxes at Brook Wood! Only 2 records of 🇮🇹 pieds seen in 🇬🇧 ever. She's happily sitting on a clutch of 7 eggs, monitored for @_BTO #NRS. @_EURING

@Ryanair 3 hours now on your delayed flight from Bristol to Madrid FR155. Sat on it going nowhere for 1.5h, screaming children and hot. And flight crew are denying us any food or water. Any response???

This Cuckoo nestling, ringed in a Meadow Pipit nest last summer by Ellie Ness of our #BTO nest recording group in the New Forest was recaptured just 33 days later on the German island of Helgoland. Only the 5th British ringed Cuckoo to be found in Germany.

@B_Strawbridge Have used this box successfully around dartmoor. Works well as can withstand floods and trees hitting it in winter. Face it so the hole is pointing downstream. Needs a bit of force to slot together but relatively quick to assemble.

Has anyone first hand experience of this particular nest box being used by #Dippers? I'd like to put a box up to see if our local pair will use it - but time is of the essence, so may need to buy one instead of making one ourselves. nestbox.co.uk/products/dippe…

Just over 40 people came to our @MoorMeadows training day today at Holne, Dartmoor. After an indoor session, we put the theory into practice, finding 13 nests at Brook Manor-a great result and the most nests yet this season! Thank you everyone who came/helped organise everything!

Details received from @_BTO of a Razorbill ringed in 1991 and found dead in January 2022 - 11,164 days later! This is a new longevity record for a Calf-ringed Razorbill, although falls short of the UK record of 42 years. Ringed as an adult this bird was at least 33 years old.

Another superb bit of late autumn migration ringing on site. Highlight 3 controls (Norwegian Chaffinch & 2 BTO Goldcrest), Green Woodpecker, Tawny Owl along with lots of Crests, Tits and mix of Thrushes & Finches ringed. Looking forward to some Easterlies soon.....

@CharmouthObs Ow yes a lot of tits too! But crests have been steady but not big numbers here at all this year.

@robbieoutside Cheers Robbie. 3 controls yesterday was superb. Have had a excellent year for controls. WW to South France and few other controls earlier in the autumn so not a bad season. Near 4,000 ringed and still lots of time left before end of season.

@CharmouthObs Had a goldcrest go to Falmouth, and a chiff come from other side of moor. Otherwise just a lot of <5km tit movements. A lot of mipits here this year 400+ ringed , 300 chiff 100+blackcap which is a lot more than last year and quite a few redpoll too. Miss august mostly though.

@robbieoutside Any interesting trends or movements this year for your site? Been excellent autumn overall. Some sp numbers down and others way up on previous year's!
