My first mobile phone, when I was fourteen (which dates me in itself), was a Trium Mars, which looked like this. I used it more or less exclusively to make calls; even texting hadn't fully caught on, at that point. Barely the same category of object as a 2020s smartphone, really.

@ariaclast @DavidDPaxton @enricorego That's part of what I'm asking. If a demographic is associated with a crime, when should that be emphasised? For example, say most phishing scammers are men? Should we all talk in those terms?

@robcmorgan @DavidDPaxton @enricorego Neutral is fine. Neutral would be “this is clearly a problem within the Somali community”. Instead it’s always deflection, subject change, whataboutery. This is bad for its own sake, and reflects the total resolve of politicians to never admit to a debit column for immigration.

Shall we say that we need to inform people about, say, Nigerian fraudsters so they can be more vigilant? Something like that?

@enricorego @DavidDPaxton When a particular nationality or race commits particular crimes, it's a choice whether to characterise the race as centrally relevant.
David thinks it's obvious that it should be characterised and that the alternative is like elite demonisation/suppression of natural behaviour.

We need to talk about abortions.
I was shocked to find a 3rd of all pregnancies are now aborted. That's a near 50% increase since 2010.
And it's not under 18s, they are down. It's women 30 - 35 driving the numbers.
Without abortions the UK TFR would be 2.11.

Also, I think it's rather moving how secular and inclusive this festival is, such that it's easy for new people of any faith or none to slot in and play along.

@reinemargot3 @DAaronovitch @RhydianLFrancis @Conservatives Every year, my family make a big deal of a festival that is: presents, big meal, tree, Santa, stockings, Muppets, Wham, cards, carols, wreath, decorations, mince pies, yule log, fire, snow...
Of those, carols is the Christian part. Some years we miss them out.

Children must be taught that Christmas is not merely about presents or Father Christmas, but about the birth of Christ.
This is exactly what one expects from the Leader of the Opposition. Christian values are British values.

The secondary appeal is an ancient, atavistic numinous end-of-year hunkering down.
There's a lot there and very little of it is from or about Christianity.
