@SamQuinnCBS Exactly this. Fix tanking by reinvigorating free agency. Easiest solution to tanking is giving teams the option to realistically build through free agency instead of having to build through the draft only. Free agency is dead path now.

I think the silent issue that goes hand in hand with tanking reform is that the last few CBAs have quietly killed free agency. The rules make it way too easy to players to extend now. That kills the free agent talent pool and makes teams more reliant on tanking and the draft.

@SamQuinnCBS Incentivize winning by incentivizing player movement. Eliminate RFA. No contract advantage to current team. More flexible salary cap & trade rules. Small tweaks like only top 3 protected in trades, teams can't pick in top 3 in consecutive years. Make free agency great again.

@BrettSiegelNBA My thought is that the draft has become the only way to build a team. Teams will tank less if they're afraid of losing the players they have, especially if they draft a potential star. The cure to tanking could be equally strong free agency.

@robcsegal The salary cap and free agency is very fluid right now. RFA hasn’t really impacted anything, and it’s necessary to help teams retain their talents. Whether or not a team wants to spend is up to them, but there are no issues with the cap/free agency right now.

@KeithSmithNBA The league did this to themselves by restricting player movement as much as they have & making trades complicated. Draft has become the only way to build a team. Adjust contract & cap rules & eliminate restricted free agency. Teams will tank less if players can leave easily.

I don't mind Option 1. I don't love including teams in the playoffs, but I don't hate it. This is probably my favorite of the three options. Option 2 is interesting, but will get confusing for folks to keep track of. There's a lot going on there. I don't hate it though. Option 3 feels like we're just moving the goalposts a bit. If a draft has prospects good enough, won't teams just tank to be bottom 5? Not a fan of that one. Feels like change for change's sake.
Shams Charania@ShamsCharania

The NBA presented three comprehensive anti-tanking concepts to its Board of Governors on Wednesday, with modifications expected to each before a formal vote in May, per ESPN sources. 1. 18 teams in draft lottery (seeds 7-15 in each conference) – flattened odds, with bottom 10 teams having an 8% chance, the remaining 20% odds distributed in decreasing order for 11 through 18, and and a lottery drawing for all 18 picks. 2) 22 teams in lottery using 2-year record (seeds 7-15, plus the four playoff first round exits in both conferences). Lottery teams would reach a minimum win total floor in each season, such as 25 wins. If a team falls short of the floor, it gets slotted to meet the floor. Top 4 drawn as part of lottery, as is currently. 3) 18 teams in a "5 by 5" lottery – bottom 5 teams have equal odds for the top pick, with lottery formed for picks 1-5. Bottom 5 teams have a floor at 10; those that fall out of top 5 get sorted in a separate drawing.

Tinted liquid glass looks better than it ever has in macOS 26.4. Apple seemed to have to improved it in multiple areas. I immediately noticed the search box in settings is fixed. I'm going to turn off reduce transparency for a few days & see how much I like it or not.

@esidery I guess spitting revenue with 2 additional teams would mean no reduction in games played during the season. Owners wouldn't agree to both.

If the NBA’s two expansion teams in Las Vegas and Seattle fetch a combined $15+ billion in sale value, over $500 million each would be distributed to the other 30 teams. Another salary explosion is on the horizon post-expansion.

Microsoft & PC makers can compete with MacBook Neo because they have to, just like when Steve Jobs unveiled MacBook Air. Just need 8gb RAM copilot+ PC, lower Windows OEM licensing fee, Snapdragon X2, more optimized Windows 11 & time.

Microsoft created copilot+ PC with 16gb of RAM requirement. If they can optimize Windows to be more performant with better memory management, it wouldn't be the worse idea to work with chip makers to lower that requirement to 8gb.

@WindowsCentral This isn't the laptop to push back on the MacBook Neo. There isn't a Windows laptop that retails at $600 that can compete with the Neo. You'll have to look for a deal of the week, but an OEM needs to make a premium-quality PC at the Neo's price. Right now, that doesn't exist.

The MacBook Neo isn't the only laptop out there for $599 worth buying. Despite what some might say. Case in point? This Acer 14-inch laptop is down to that magic $599 price point right now and is far better equipped. You won't find a USB 2.0 port here. Just sayin' windowscentral.com/hardware/lapto…

@raywongy And professional designers & photographers will have an Air or Pro. For casual people, the Neo's screen is good enough.

The MacBook Neo screen isn’t good enough for designers or photographers is something I keep hearing people say Bro, most people are still exporting pics for sRGB even tho almost all phone/tablet/laptop screens support P3 or better color gamut I think MacBook Neo users will be just fine

@WindowsCentral MacBook Neo can smoothly handle web browsing, document creating, apps like Canva, social media video editing shot on iPhone, light casual photo editing. Everything casual people want. Problem isn't MacBook Neo specs. It's Windows.

You can, in fact, find sub-$599 Windows laptops without settling for terrible specs 💸 Here's one we found earlier with 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, all-day battery life, and more than two USB-C ports! Qualcomm's Snapdragon X chips have been making this possible for a while ⤵️ windowscentral.com/hardware/asus/…

Problem isn't the MacBook Neo having 8GB of RAM, but Windows needing lots of RAM to still run sluggishly. Windows used to run fine on 8GB of RAM. I used to run it in parallels on an 8GB MacBook Air alongside macOS, but I dare not do that now after my experience with Windows 11.

Initial reviews of MacBook Neo's furthers my belief that Microsoft needs to optimize Windows in a major way, especially with the current consumer PC RAM shortages. Windows desperately needs under-the-hood improvements & optimizations.

MacOS uses very aggressive memory compression, very optimized to use swap memory, has fewer legacy layers, has a tightly integrated UI stack, and very effective unified memory. That's why 8GB of memory on MacBook Neo is fine for its target buyer compared to cheap Windows 11 PCs.

The impact of the MacBook Neo is clear. Look at any sub-$600 laptop at Best Buy. Even with its compromises, it outclasses all of them on paper. This is the kind of competition the midrange market has needed.

Mark Walter is majority owner but Jeanie is still governor of the Lakers for another 4 years. As long as she's still governor, Pelinka will run basketball operations. This shouldn't surprise anyone.
