BREAKING: Former FBI Director James Comey trolls Trump over his $1.8 billion slush fund for those "targeted" by the Justice Department: "I’m guessing I’ll be in line!"
At first, he thought that the grift was "a piece from The Onion." We really wish that it were...
“It’s to compensate people who’ve been targeted by the Justice Department for, they say, personal, political or ideological reasons,” Comey said on CNN. “So, I’m guessing I’ll be in line. I hope I’ll be ahead of those who savagely beat police officers and sacked the Capitol.”
Jake Tapper sought clarification, asking Comey if he actually intends to pursue restitution. Comey said that he is going to speak to his attorneys, but it "certainly sounds intended for someone like me.”
“I don’t think that that’s how it’s intended, but I understand what you’re saying,” said Tapper.
During a conversation with PBS News‘s Geoff Bennett, Comey voiced similar incredulity at the stunningly corrupt announcement from Trump's Justice Department.
For those just tuning into this issue, the President is taking $1.776 billion of your tax dollars and funneling it to people who were "targeted" by the Biden administration. Of course, that "targeting" was really just prosecuting criminals like the January 6th insurrectionists. Trump pardoned these violent maniacs and now he's lining their pockets. They're being rewarded for choosing loyalty to him over loyalty to their country — and Trump is sending a clear message that future violence, if it comes to that, will be similarly rewarded.
"Kiddingly, do I get to apply? Do all victims of weaponization get to ask for attorney’s fees? We’ll have to see," Comey said to Bennett, adding that he might apply to be "humorous about the whole thing.”
“But if it’s for people who’ve been targeted for reasons other than the normal standards of the Department of Justice, I’m ready to get in line,” he added.
The joke here, of course, is that nobody thinks that Comey will receive a payout from Trump because it was Trump's own DOJ that indicted Comey on sham charges related to seashells. Unlike the January 6th traitors, the former FBI Director was genuinely "targeted."
But this slush fund isn't intended to make things right for Americans who were unfairly prosecuted. It's intended to make MAGA supporters rich.
Comey should absolutely pursue a piece of this slush fund. When the Trump administration inevitably rejects his request, it will expose the entire fraud as just that.
