This is not a black and white photograph but is, in fact, the sheerest of white gauze #1860s crinoline gowns, pictured over a black form to showcase the whitework embellished fabric. It is ghostly and gorgeous. Sold via #daguerreauctions #fashionhistory

Rounding the corner on this quiet lane in the morning sunshine, I must admit that I had to stop and rub my eyes a little. The verges shimmered, that lovely golden light picking out the trees and the grasses and the curving way ahead - and above it all, a floating farm?! You never know what you'll find in the Peak District countryside! 📍 Peak District, England

I've spent my week in London working with the kids from Phoenix Arch school, helping them to create large-scale sculptures of sea creatures. All of the kids here have additional needs, they've helped one another, worked hard, and enjoyed themselves. 🙂 darrellwakelam.com

The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle on the murder of the young king Edward the Martyr, who was killed on the evening of 18 March in 978. In the view of this chronicler it was the worst deed done among the English 'since the time when they first came to Britain', five centuries earlier.

I often show students a picture of this #1950s Jean Dessès creation for its alternative embellishment. Rather than utilising more traditional techniques like embroidery, he used hundreds of fine silk circles in ever decreasing petals. I can only imagine how it moved @LACMA

Looking forward to my lecture today about the great mid century American sportswear designers including Claire McCardell. This is her optimistically named Future silk dress from 1945 that she modelled herself, just one of her timeless designs @metmuseum #fashionhistory

📜 The Temple of Hathor or "Small Temple" was constructed during the reign of Ramesses II (c. 1279 - c. 1213 BCE). The Small Temple was dedicated to the goddess Hathor and Queen Nefertari, Ramesses' favourite wife. On the facade, six colossi represent Ramesses II and his wife, Queen Nefertari, shown as the Goddess Hathor. Alongside each colossus are small figures in relief depicting the children of the royal couple. 📷 Photo by Carole Raddato.  #Egypt #TempleOfHathor #RamessesII #Hathor #Nefertari #History #AncientHistory #AncientEgypt #HistoricalSite
