Expecting a certain (and only) outcome can lead to frustration when the reality is not as expected. This can be especially true when caregiving for someone with cognitive impairment and expecting them to react or respond in a certain way which is not always possible.

Caregiving is stressful and caregivers (and often times the loved one they care for) are anxious. Did you know there is research showing anxiety can be contagious? Learn to protect your mental health. #mentalhealth

April is Stress Awareness Month! Stress is unavoidable when caregiving but when it gets to be too much it is time to reach out for help. Fortunately, there are now online therapists so even caregivers who are mainly housebound with their loved one can get the help they need.

Caregivers have such a difficult time finding the time or energy to exercise. One way to combat stress and get some steps in is to go outside while your loved one sleeps and walk around the front (or back) yard. With or without your beloved pet!

The evenings are getting a little warmer so you might want to step outside to enjoy a sunset or watch the stars. Bring your loved one out or wait until they are safe in bed and take some time for yourself.

Caregivers go to so many appointments with their loved one that adding one more appointment for themselves seems impossible. Even if you have to take your loved one with you, make that appointment for yourself. You are important too.
