There is a region in southeastern Spain called Almería. If you pull it up on satellite imagery, you will assume the screen has glitched. A vast, blinding white scab where a landscape used to be. It's not a glitch. It's 64,000 acres of plastic greenhouses. So much plastic sheeting that it is, genuinely, visible from space. The entire region has been wrapped in industrial farming film to grow tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and lettuce for European supermarkets in January. The plastic has created its own microclimate. The reflective surface is so vast it has measurably lowered local temperatures by bouncing sunlight back into the atmosphere. Scientists have a name for it. The Albedo effect of Almería. The only place on earth where human activity has cooled the local climate, and they did it by accident, while building the world's largest open-air plastic factory. The plastic itself is single-use agricultural film. It sits in UV light for three to five years, degrades into microplastics, blows into the Mediterranean, and ends up in the ocean and the soil. Every year, 45,000 tonnes of plastic waste is generated just from replacing degraded greenhouse covering. Every year. Just the covering. Inside, workers from Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa labour in 45°C heat for €30 a day. No contracts. No rights. Spraying crops with pesticides at concentrations that would be illegal on outdoor fields. Ventilation: minimal. Chemical exposure: constant. The aubergine looks lovely. The groundwater underneath Almería is so contaminated with agricultural runoff that it has been declared unusable. The region now imports water from elsewhere in Spain while sitting on top of a poisoned aquifer it created. The land that was meant to feed Europe more efficiently has become a place that needs water flown in to keep the show running. And this is what supplies your fresh vegetables in January. Grown in plastic factories. By exploited workers. Using groundwater they have already destroyed. Wrapped in more plastic. Shipped across Europe. Refrigerated the whole way. So a person in Manchester can have a tomato in February that tastes of nothing. But sure. Cattle grazing on Scottish hills are the environmental problem. Pull the satellite up. Have a look. Then tell me which system is the one that needs explaining.

De trek door de oceanen van de walvissen wordt op veel plekken verstoord door windturbines. De navigatie van deze zeedieren wordt beïnvloed door hoogfrequente trillingen en massale fysieke opstakels door de massaal geplaatste windmolens. En de klimaatidiologen blijven maar denken dat die onrendabele stroomopwekkers goed voor de aarde zijn.

De Nederlandse staat oogt netjes, transparant en goed georganiseerd. Onder die façade groeit een parallel ecosysteem van GONGO’s: Government-Organized Non-Governmental Organizations. Organisaties die zogenaamd onafhankelijk zijn, maar in werkelijkheid draaien op belastinggeld, politieke netwerken en extreem ideologische agenda’s. Een GONGO is geen klassieke corruptie met koffers cash. Het is subtieler, en daardoor gevaarlijker. Het is netwerkcorruptie: dezelfde mensen die beleid maken, verdelen ook de subsidies, zitten in raden van toezicht, adviseren elkaar, en schuiven door tussen ministeries, NGO’s en semi-publieke instellingen. Geen harde wetten worden overtreden, maar het systeem is ontworpen om zichzelf te voeden. Neem Frans Timmermans en wat inmiddels bekendstaat als “Timmermansgate”. Als Eurocommissaris pompte hij miljarden in klimaatsubsidies, waarbij NGO’s actief werden ingezet om draagvlak te creëren voor precies datzelfde beleid. Met andere woorden: beleid werd niet alleen gemaakt, maar ook via gesubsidieerde ‘maatschappelijke organisaties’ verkocht aan de samenleving. Astroturfing met belastinggeld. Geen directe verrijking, maar wel een gesloten circuit van macht, invloed en ideologie. Tweede voorbeeld: de Nederlandse stikstofcrisis en organisaties als Mobilisation for the Environment (MOB). Formeel een onafhankelijke milieuclub, maar opererend binnen een ecosysteem waarin overheid, rechtspraak en gesubsidieerde activisten elkaar versterken. Door juridische procedures af te dwingen, wordt beleid feitelijk uit handen van de politiek gehaald en overgeleverd aan een kleine groep activisten en rechters. Wie betaalt indirect de infrastructuur, expertise en continuïteit van dit soort organisaties? Juist, de belastingbetaler. Derde voorbeeld: de ontwikkelingssector rond organisaties als Oxfam Novib. Jaarlijks ontvangen zij honderden miljoenen aan subsidies, terwijl ze tegelijkertijd actief lobbyen voor méér overheidsuitgaven en herverdeling. Dat is geen onafhankelijke civil society meer, dat is een verlengstuk van de staat. De prikkel is pervers: hoe groter het probleem wordt gepresenteerd, hoe groter het budget en de invloed. Wat al deze voorbeelden gemeen hebben, is niet klassieke corruptie, maar structurele belangenverstrengeling. Beleidsmakers creëren een netwerk van organisaties die hun agenda ondersteunen, legitimeren en versterken. Kritiek wordt gemarginaliseerd, want het “maatschappelijk middenveld” lijkt het eens te zijn. In werkelijkheid is dat middenveld grotendeels afhankelijk gemaakt van de staat zelf. Dit model ondermijnt democratie op een fundamenteel niveau. Niet omdat er geen verkiezingen zijn, maar omdat de echte macht verschuift naar een gesloten kring van professionals, consultants en bestuurders die elkaar kennen, financieren en benoemen. De kiezer staat buitenspel. De oplossing ligt niet in nóg meer toezicht of nieuwe commissies. Het begint met het doorbreken van de financieringscirkel. Stop met alle subsidies en dus ook aan deze pseudo-onafhankelijke organisaties. Dwing transparantie af in geldstromen en netwerken. En vooral: verklein de staat, zodat er überhaupt minder te verdelen valt. Want waar geld en macht samenkomen in gesloten netwerken, ontstaat altijd dezelfde uitkomst. Geen vrije samenleving, maar een crimineel kartel dat zichzelf in stand houdt.

Wie informatie die hem niet ziet een "bedreiging" noemt, heeft de afslag naar het totalitarisme allang gemaakt: doodeng deze generatie politici die niet inzien dat ze lijden aan exact hetzelfde syndroom wat ze zeggen te bestrijden

Everyone’s told plastic pollution is a “global” problem… But the data say something very different. Roughly 90–95% of ocean plastic comes from a handful of rivers... mostly in Asia and Africa. The Yangtze. Ganges. Mekong. Nile. Niger. Not your grocery bag in Colorado. Not your straw in D.C. A small number of poorly managed waste systems are doing the overwhelming majority of the damage. The UN isn’t structuring this like a solvable engineering problem... it’s structuring it like a permanent global revenue stream. Because if you solve it quickly and directly… there’s no need for decades of committees, funding mechanisms, and “frameworks.”
